Brooklyn Nets: Joel Embiid is Their Biggest Title Obstacle

The Brooklyn Nets on paper are clearly the most talented team in the NBA. They have three elite superstars in Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden.

All three of them can dominate a game by themselves on the court with their ball handling, drives to the lane and perimeter shooting.

So far in the playoffs, the Nets have dominated. They easily beat their division rival Boston Celtics in five games in the first round.

And so far in the second round, the Nets have dominated Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks. Nets lead the series 2-1 after blowing out the Bucks 125-86 in Game 2 and tripping up in Game 3, 86-83.

So can the Nets be stopped? Is there any team that can slow them down?

Well if there’s any team that can give the Nets fits, it’s any team with size. The Nets are a guard heavy team that does a lot of scoring from the perimeter. They don’t have a lot of big men in the middle, other than Nicholas Claxton and Blake Griffin.

If the Nets get past the Bucks, then a potential matchup problem could possibly await them in the Eastern Conference Finals.

The Philadelphia 76ers led by their all around star center in Joel Embiid.

The Sixers are currently tied 1-1 with the Atlanta Hawks in the second round. If they get past Trae Young and the Hawks, it could possibly set up a dream Eastern Conference Finals with the division rival Nets.

The Sixers may not have three elite superstars like the Nets do, but they have one elite big man who can create havoc down low. Joel Embiid is the player that can be the difference maker in that matchup.

Embiid has had an MVP caliber season. And so far, he has dominated in the playoffs.

In Game 2 vs the Hawks, Embiid scored 40 points in the Sixers 118-102 rout to get back in the series. He became the first Sixer since Allen Iverson to score at least 40 points in a playoff game. Embiid also grabbed 13 rebounds in Game 2.

Joel Embiid is a matchup nightmare for any opposing center. He can post up and dominate down low with his size and strength. Embiid can handle the ball down, drive to the lane and can run for a big man. Finally he can also score from the perimeter and can shoot the three pointer.

Basically Embiid has the complete package offensively. He has size, strength and athleticism.

If the Sixers and Nets meet in the conference finals, Brooklyn will have no answer for Embiid, especially if DeAndre can’t play. The Nets will not have enough big men down low to slow Embiid down. Brooklyn can double team him down low. However Embiid has such good IQ, that he can pass quickly out of double teams and get the ball right back.

Embiid also has more support around him. Ben Simmons is still the Sixers second star player who can also provide some offense. Tobias Harris is another player who provides scoring.

Embiid also has more perimeter help than he ever had in his career. Seth Curry, Danny Green, Shane Milton and Furkan Korkmaz all are threats from three point land.

The Nets may still be the favorite to win it all. But don’t count out the Sixers, especially with Embiid. He alone can be the huge difference maker especially since the Nets are lacking in size.

What do you think? Is Joel Embiid and the Sixers the biggest threat to the Nets championship hopes. Leave a comment below.
