Detroit Red Wings: Moritz Seider the Next Big Defenseman?

Moritz Seider was the sixth overall pick by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. Seider is 20-years-old and he will be ready to make an impact with Detroit. Moritz Seider is one of the best defensive prospects not only for the Red Wings organization, but in the NHL.

General manager Steve Yzerman knows how to scout talent and this is a perfect example of it. Seider is going to be the number one defenseman for Detroit sooner rather than later. Moritz Seider is a tremendous skater, passer, defender, and shooter of the puck.

The Detroit Red Wings have not had this kind of defensive player in their system since Nicklas Lidstrom. Detroit is known as hockey town for a reason. Seider is going to make noise whenever he reaches the NHL.

In the 2020-2021 regular season with the Rogle BK Angelholm in the SweHL, he scored seven goals and recorded 21 assists, in 41 games played for them. Moritz Seider’s plus/minus rating was 14. In 13 postseason games, he has scored one goal and has recorded five assists. His plus/minus was 9.

Seider has also played in three games with team Germany. He has scored zero goals and has recorded two assists. His plus/minus was 3.

Moritz Seider will most likely not be playing overseas next season and he will most likely either start with the Detroit Red Wings in the NHL or get some games in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins.

In his AHL career back in 2019-2020, he played in 49 games with Grand Rapids. Moritz Seider only scored two goals but he recorded 20 assists. His plus/minus was -5.

Seider was the heartbeat of the Rogle BK Angelholm hockey team this past season in the SweHL. He is going to be missed by them on the back end.

His blue line presence will be appreciated by Detroit because they are going through a rebuild still. The youth movement is real for the Detroit Red Wings. Jeff Blashill will stay as the head coach for the Detroit Red Wings. Red Wings fans have to feel like the future is bright for them.

Defenseman Moritz Seider has been hyped by the media and the Detroit Red Wings organization. It is officially time for him to see what he can do with this hockey team moving forward in Detroit, Michigan.

He is going to potentially be the next big defenseman in the NHL. Moritz Seider has the potential to win the Calder Trophy in his first season in the NHL. He could also be a multiple time Norris Trophy winner in his NHL career also here as well.

Moritz Seider has a lot to prove to himself and it will be interesting to see what happens. I am sure Detroit Red Wings fans will be buying his jersey sooner rather than later also.
