New York Giants: What Does Kadarius Toney mean for Them?
The New York Giants had one of the best NFL Drafts out of any team this year. New York was able to improve the roster crops even more by selecting wide receiver Kadarius Toney with the 20th overall pick form tht University of Florida in the 2021 NFL Draft.
The New York Giants originally owned the 11th pick in the NFL Draft. However, when wide receivers Devonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle from the University of Alabama were off the board, they decided to trade back.
New York acquired a 2022 first-round pick, a 2022 fourth-round pick, and a 2021 fifth-round pick from the Chicago Bears. for the 11th selection. It obviously included the 20th overall selection as well from Chicago. The Bears selected quarterback Justin Fields from the Ohio State University.
As for Toney himself, he is a speed demon and will help this offense right away. He works out quite often with New York Giants quarterback Danel Jones. Kadarius Toney takes a ton of screen passes and takes them to the house quite often.
Toney will most likely be the New York Giants number two wide receiver this season right behind wide receiver Kenny Golladay. Kadarius Toney in 11 games this past season at the University of Florida, he caught 70 passes for 984 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns. Toney also rushed for 161 yards on 19 carries and a touchdown.
Their will potentially be some RPO’s (run-pass options) in the backfield where Kadarius Toney and running back Saquon Barkley are both in the backfield on the same down. This offense has the potential to be something special this season.
Weapons for Jones
Darius Slayton and Sterling Shepard are now the third and fourth wide receivers on the roster. Evan Engram and Kyle Rudolph will be the top two tight ends on the roster. The only thing that will stop this offense from reaching high expectations is Daniel Jones‘s fumbles and turnovers and offensive coordinator’s Jason Garrett‘s horrendous play calling.
The New York Giants should be a playoff team in 2021. Wide receiver Kadarius Toney is the most explosive wide receiver they have drafted since Odell Beckham Jr. from LSU in 2014. The future looks bright for the New York Giants.
They also acquired three extra draft picks in the 2022 NFL Draft. New York has a lot going for them.
Kadarius Toney was the heartbeat of the Florida Gators wide receiver crops last season. He was always a home run threat on every single play.
The G-Men could potentially score a lot of points this season because of him. They also need to create better separation when running routes. The ability to score points and put pressure on opposing defenses is what is vital in today’s NFL.
It is more of an offensive league than a defensive league, but playing some defense will still be important. Head coach Joe Judge, general manager Dave Gettleman, and defensive coordinator Patrick Graham deserves some credit for doing things right in the draft evaluation as well here.
Wide receiver Kadarius Toney for the New York Giants could potentially be an offensive rookie of the year candidate in the NFL. We will see what happens as the rest of the offseason goes. Will see what happens leading up to the regular season. His development could potentially be a work in progress early, but will be a star later on.
