Indianapolis Colts: Top Three Needs in the 2021 NFL Draft

The AFC South is an exciting division outside of the Houston Texans. The Indianapolis Colts made it to the playoffs last year. They had a veteran quarterback and future Hall of Famer Philip Rivers at the helm. They would lose to the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round. This team has a good defense that helps their good offense.

Rivers retired so they made a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles and acquired Carson Wentz. Wentz has a good start with the Eagles but towards the end, it went bad. Some of his best years were under Frank Reich. Reich has been a successful head coach for the Colts. In this year’s NFL draft Indianapolis has a total of six picks. The only round that the Colts do not have a pick in round three. Look for them to draft smart and add pieces that could help them have a better 2021-22.

Round One Pick 21

There is one thing that a team can never have enough of and that is depth on both the offensive and defensive lines. I can see the Indianapolis Colts taking an offensive lineman at this pick. The one that stands out is Teven Jenkins the offensive tackle out of Oklahoma State. The Colts recently had Anthony Castonzo retire. So, Jenkins would replace Castonzo. Jenkins has great feet and moves very well. Another good aspect about Jenkins is that he can play either the right or left side of the line. This will help Carson Wentz as he gets acclimated to the Colts offense.

Round Two Pick 54

This is where I can see the Indianapolis Colts selecting a defense player. This will boost their defensive line. The one that would be available is Joseph Ossai the EDGE rusher out of the University of Texas. At his play in days as a Longhorn, he always seemed to find himself in the offensive backfield. Ossai had 29 tackles for loss over the past two years for Texas. He has the untapped potential as a pass rusher. This will help them get better on defense. These are the types of players that can change your team and put them over the top.

Round Four Pick 127

The reason that the Indianapolis Colts do not have a third-round pick is because of the trade for Carson Wentz. Many sense that they will pick another offensive player. That seems to be Brevin Jordan the tight end out of the University of Miami. Jordan was a top-tier tight end out of high school. What Jordan would bring is a top-catching tight end that the Indianapolis Colts have lacked. Many have just blocking tight ends but if you can find one that can do both is a great thing. Jordan would help Wentz and the offense be better this season.

The NFL draft is like the lottery you never know what is going to happen. The Indianapolis Colts are sitting in the middle of the opening round. They might go after an offensive lineman which a team can never have too many of. This team if they make the right moves could win the division and get further in the playoffs than they did in the 2020-21 season. Their second pick they are hoping that Joseph Ossai is available but if not they have other EDGE rusher options they could pick up. In the end, I could see them getting a mixture of offensive and defensive players in this draft.
