Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Top Three Needs in the 2021 NFL Draft
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are also in a different position coming into this year’s draft. They are coming off the franchise’s second Super Bowl championship. Most of that was because they brought in Tom Brady. His experience and leadership were what the Buccaneers needed. They also brought back almost every free agent that they had. At this moment they can now just get the best player that is available.
There have been many good drafts picks that general manager Jason Licht has made and others that could have got him fired. It has also been good to have head coach Bruce Arians who saved Licht’s job. It was a good season when Tampa Bay went into their bye week at 7-5 and never lost another game. They dominated the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl holding them to no touchdowns.
Round One Pick 32
This pick could go on or two ways for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The first is they pick an edge rusher, cornerback, or running back. It is hard to know what they will do. Some have them taking if he is available running back Travis Etienne. Etienne is a great back out of the Clemson University. He has been part of the success of the Tigers. He is an all-purpose back that can catch the ball out of the backfield which Tom Brady loves. If not him, I have seen Asante Samuel Jr. the great cornerback out of Florida State. Again, whatever the best player is available at 32.
Round Two Pick 64
This is where I can see the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could draft an offensive lineman. The best available might be Quinn Meinerz out of the University of Wisconsin. He can play guard or center which will help offensive line depth. Meinerz could help Alex Cappa and Ali Marpet. Many say Meinerz could be the next Marpet. He would be the sixth offensive lineman who could take Cappa spot in 2022. This is a good problem to have because remember you have a veteran quarterback to protect. Brady will be here for a least the next two to three years.
Round Three Pick 95
Here is where the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could go after an edge rusher if they do not take one in the first round. Jason Pierre-Paul is getting older, and it would help to get his replacement. The Buccaneers already have Shaq Barrett signed for the long term and another edge rusher would help more than hurt. Many have said Osa Odighizuwa out of UCLA could be their pick. Odighizuwa played mostly in a 3-4 defense which on some occasions the Bucs run. He plays best in the three-technique. This will make Tampa Bay better on the defensive side of the ball.
This will be an interesting draft for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It has been 20 years since they won a Super Bowl. Tampa Bay can either trade for more picks or stay put and draft the best player available. Either way, they set themselves up to go after back-to-back Super Bowl Championships. The draft will help with most depth for them. Jason Licht does not have to worry about his job or is he makes bad picks in the 2021 draft. Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans should be excited about their team and the draft.
