NBA Draft: Where Does Gonzaga’s Jalen Suggs Land?

Jalen Suggs’s collegiate season came to an end on Monday night when Gonzaga was demolished in the Nat’l Championship Game against Baylor by a final score of 86-70. Suggs led the way for the Gonzaga Bulldogs with 22 points, one rebound, three assists, and two steals.

He is one of the three freshman that is projected to go in the top three in the upcoming 2021 NBA Draft. The other two freshmen that are projected to go is Oklahoma State’s point guard/shooting guard Cade Cunningham and power forward/center Evan Mobley from USC.

Suggs will be the first player in a long time that is a one-and-done for Mark Few’s program. Jalen Suggs is going to be a 10-15 year stud potentially in the NBA. He is very athletic, can defend, and pass well. However, Suggs will also need to work on his outside shot.

Jalen Suggs was the heartbeat of this Gonzaga basketball team this past season. He was one of the best players the basketball program has had in a very long time here as well.

In a lot of NBA mock drafts, they have Suggs going third overall. If the season ended today in the NBA without the NBA Draft Lottery, the Detroit Pistons (15-35 record) would own the third overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.

Detroit needs a lot of help and they are going through a big time rebuild. The Pistons need a new face of the franchise and they currently don’t have one. A core of Jalen Suggs and Saddiq Bey would be a nice start, but they will need a lot more than that.

The Detroit Pistons also drafted Killian Hayes this season and he hasn’t played much due to injury but they are extremely far away from being good again.

Jalen Suggs in 30 games this season with the Gonzaga Bulldogs, he averaged 14.4 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 4.5 APG, 0.3 BPG, and 1.9 SPG. Through the stats, it shows that Suggs can be an elite defender at the NBA level. He will also make teammates around him better. It also show that he can take over basketball games.

These are some of the abilities he will need to excel at the next level. The one-and-done theme isn’t a surprise these days, especially with Jalen Suggs. I expect him to declare for the NBA Draft in 2021 sooner rather than later here as well.

The Gonzaga Bulldogs may have fell one game short of an undefeated season, but Jalen Suggs will always be remembered. This is due to the half-court shot he banked in against UCLA to send to them the Nat’l Title Game. Those memories will always last a lifetime.

The Minnesota Timberwolves, the Houston Rockets, the Orlando Magic, and the Washington Wizards could also be in play for Jalen Suggs. It will all depend on how the NBA Draft Lottery ping pong balls fall out also.
