Chicago Blackhawks: Who Are The Top Prospects?
The Chicago Blackhawks a few years ago were one of the perennial teams in the NHL. Chicago was making it to the playoffs almost every season until they missed it for a couple of seasons after the 2016-2017 season. The Blackhawks have been criticized for not drafting and scouting well at one point.
General Manager Stan Bowman was backed by ownership, although I thought he should have been fired when the Chicago Blackhawks decided to fire former head coach Joel Quenneville, who is now excelling with the Florida Panthers. Jeremy Colliton is currently the Chicago Blackhawks head coach.
Some of the current young players on Chicago’s are roster Pius Suter, Alex DeBrincat, Kirby Dach, Kevin Lankinen, and Ian Mitchell. Speaking of young players and a quick rebuild around players like Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, and Duncan Keith. However, who are some of the top prospects in the Chicago Blackhawks farm system?
Reichel was the 17th overall pick (first-round selection) in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. He is only 18 years old and has the potential to play on the top two lines one day and also on the number one power-play unit.
Lukas Reichel could be like veteran Patrick Kane was one day. That will be high expectations to live up to, but we will see how it goes for the Chicago Blackhawks down the line.
Reichel is the heartbeat of the Berlin Polar Bears. That is the current hockey team he plays for in the DEL league.
In 24 games so far this season with them, he has scored seven goals and has recorded 14 assists. His plus/minus is 16. Lukas Reichel’s plus/minus is 16. He is currently in his second season with the Berlin Polar Bears in the DEL league. Reichel is also a left-winger, who shoots left-handed.
Barratt was a third-round pick (90th overall selection) in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. He is 22 years old and is a left-handed centerman. Evan Barratt is currently playing in the AHL with the Rockford IceHogs in the AHL.
Barratt could be with the Chicago Blackhawks by the end of the season, but it most likely will not be until the end of next season in 2022 to see some game action. Evan Barratt will most likely be a third or fourth-line centerman for the Chicago Blackhawks.
In 14 games in the AHL so far this season, he has scored two goals and recorded four assists. His plus/minus is -3.
Teply is a 19-year-old left-winger, who shoots right-handed and was a fourth-round pick (105th overall selection) in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. He has a lot of polishing and game development to improve overall.
I am sure he is going to be in the AHL for the next few years. The Chicago Blackhawks do not need to rush him at all because that would be extremely bad for his development.
Michal Teply started the season in the Czech League with Mlada Boleslav BK. He only played in one game with them and didn’t score a goal or record an assist. His plus/minus rating in that hockey game was even.
He is currently in the AHL with the Rockford IceHogs. In two games so far this season with them, Michal Teply has yet to score a goal or record an assist, but his plus/minus rating is -1.
Teply won’t sniff the ice for the Chicago Blackhawks because he needs to get game reps at the AHL level. His upside is very good. Michal Teply could be a top-six player one day, but could potentially be a bottom-six player or a high-end AHL player at best for the Chicago Blackhawks organization.
