New York Giants: Is Big Blue NFC East Favorites in 2021?

The New York Giants are coming off a 6-10 season, but the future looks bright for this football franchise. New York finished in second place in the NFC East during the regular season.

The Washington Football Team finished with a 7-9 record and won the division on the last day of the regular season against the Philadelphia Eagles (4-11-1). The Dallas Cowboys finished in third place in the NFC East.

So what could make the New York Giants potentially the early favorites next season heading into the 2021 regular season?

1. Head Coach Joe Judge/General Manager Dave Gettleman Connection

Joe Judge was in his first season as the head coach of the New York Giants. His goal was to lay the foundation and the culture of this franchise for years to come. Judge had everyone buying into his system and hopefully, it works for years to come.

Joe Judge was the special teams coordinator for the New England Patriots under Bill Belichick before that. This was a home run hire by general manager Dave Gettleman. Gettleman gets to stick around for another season because of his home run drafting in 2020 and also his free agents, which means that he will make the right moves heading into 2021.

2. New York is the Only Team That Knows Their Starting Quarterback

Out of the four teams in the division, the New York Giants are the only ones set at the starting quarterback position for the 2021 season. They are committed to helping out Daniel Jones.

He is the heart and soul of the New York Giants. Jones is going to be looking to take a big leap in year three.

The New York Giants are committed in getting Daniel Jones some help.

The Washington Football Team will more than likely have a new QB.

The Philadelphia Eagles will either have Carson Wentz or Jalen Hurts.

The Dallas Cowboys will either have Dak Prescott or a rookie quarterback.

3. An Improved Defense

The defense was a top 10 defense this past season under defensive coordinator Patrick Graham. They need some edge rushers and a number two cornerback.

However, the pieces are in place with linebacker Blake Martinez, cornerback James Bradberry, safeties Xavier McKinney and Logan Ryan, and defensive tackle Leonard Williams.

As long as they re-sign Leonard Williams, they will be just fine. Defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson is also a free agent, but he will most likely be signed by another football team due to cap reasons.

4. The Division is Weak

Remember when the New York Giants started 0-5 and then finished 6-5 for the rest of the season? Well, having a preseason next season is going to help this football team big time.

They will be able to evaluate the roster better. Running back Saquon Barkley also gets to return from his torn ACL. The division is also in chaos.

Washington doesn’t have its quarterback position settled and neither does Philadelphia or Dallas.

The Washington Football Team lacks offensive firepower. The Philadelphia Eagles lack stability. The Dallas Cowboys lack defense.

New York could very well win this NFC East division next season at 10-6 or 11-5 going away. This could help their cause because they will be picking 11th in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Head coach Joe Judge is going to want to make it to the playoffs next season. Offensive coordinator Jason Garrett will need to be better at calling the plays next season as well here.

They have not won the Super Bowl since Super Bowl XLVI against the New England Patriots 21-17.
