Pittsburgh Steelers: Should Ben Roethlisberger Retire?

Ben Roethlisberger is most likely going to be coming back next season for the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, a lot of players are either going to retire or leave in free agency. Should Roethlisberger retire or should he stay for one more Super Bowl run?

In reality, I think it is time for him to retire. The offense regressed around him as the season went on, but that’s because the running game was simply horrendous at all levels.

Ben Roethlisberger is the best quarterback in the history of the Pittsburgh Steelers and yes he is better than Terry Bradshaw, even though Roethlisberger only won two Super Bowls and Bradshaw won four of them.

Roethlisberger is the heart and soul of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He gave it his all for his franchise week in and week out despite his injury history.

It might be time for this football team to go with Mason Rudolph as the starting quarterback next season and have Dwyane Haskins as the backup.

It is a win-win situation for the Pittsburgh Steelers and here is why. The first reason is if Rudolph succeeds, he will be the franchise quarterback for Pittsburgh moving forward. If not, then they could land a potential top 10 to top 15 pick. Then they could draft a potential franchise quarterback.

The Cleveland Browns with Baker Mayfield and the Baltimore Ravens with Lamar Jackson aren’t going anywhere. The Cincinnati Bengals are on the rise with Joe Burrow at the helm.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Pittsburgh Steelers in last place in the AFC North in 2021. It will be interesting to see what happens moving forward.

Ben Roethlisberger means a lot to this city and this franchise. His number will probably be retired one day and no one will probably ever wear it again in the Steel City.

He meant everything to this franchise, but sometimes it is better to move on from things sooner rather than later. This should be Pittsburgh’s gap season, even though they have a talented enough roster to be in win-now mode. The Steelers will have many questions to answer this offseason and it could mark the end of an era also.

The defense will show up next season and they also need to address the running game. They are deep at wide receiver. Pittsburgh also made Matt Canada the new offensive coordinator after they fired Randy Fitchner.

Center Maurkice Pouncey could very well retire and players like wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster and outside linebacker Bud Dupree could leave and walk away in free agency.

The Pittsburgh Steelers should try and convince quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to retire, but it most likely won’t happen. If he does retire, it would mean a brand new day for the Pittsburgh Steelers and it would usher in a new era.
