Toronto Blue Jays: George Springer Adds Pop to Young Lineup

George Springer was one of the top prizes on the free-agent market this season. He has played with the Houston Astros for his entire MLB career up to this point. Springer decided to sign a six-year deal worth $150 million with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Toronto decided to bring out the brinks truck for him. The New York Mets were the other team that was interested in him, but Springer decided to go to the Blue Jays at the very last second.

I was very surprised that George Springer wanted to play north of the border, instead of staying close to home in Connecticut. The Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees, or the New York Mets would have made more sense than the Toronto Blue Jays.

Toronto is going to have a very loaded lineup. Springer will most likely be the leadoff hitter for the Blue Jays. He was the leadoff hitter for the Houston Astros. George Springer was a World Series MVP and he also went to two World Series with them.

The Toronto Blue Jays have not won the World Series since 1993 against the Philadelphia Phillies. Toronto maybe the favorites this morning to win at least the American League East over the New York Yankees.

Springer is 31 years old. In 51 games played last season with the Houston Astros, his batting average was .265 with 14 home runs and 32 RBI’s, along with one stolen base. George Springer’s on-base percentage was .359. His WAR (wins above replacement) was 2.2.

Some of the players that are currently on the roster are: Danny Jensen, Bo Bichette, Cavan Biggio, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Jonathan Davis, Derek Fisher, and Lourdes Gurriel Jr.

George Springer will be the heartbeat and the heart and soul of the Toronto Blue Jays. He will provide veteran leadership inside the clubhouse for a younger team and it is desperately needed.

Springer is going to make this Toronto Blue Jays team fun to watch in 2021 and beyond. Toronto’s World Series window has officially opened and it is going to potentially be something special to watch.

This team will be a fun watch on TV. TV ratings may go up this season for them because of George Springer.

He has a chance to change the culture for them. Toronto lost to the Tampa Bay Rays in the postseason in a two-game sweep in 2020.

George Springer also lost to the Tampa Bay Rays in the playoffs last season with the Houston Astros. Houston trailed 3-0 in that series before Tampa Bay won Game 7.

The Rays lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in six games in the 2020 World Series. Springer was just in the World Series in 2019 with Houston and also in 2017.

He lost to the Washington Nationals (2019) in seven games and also defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers (2017) in seven games. George Springer wants to help the Toronto Blue Jays get back to the World Series and win it also.
