Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Three Keys vs New Orleans Saints

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers played their first game in the Wild card round and got a win over the Washington Football Team. This was the first time they had won a playoff game since their Super Bowl win over the Oakland Raiders (Las Vegas Raiders). The Buccaneers played well on offense as Tom Brady and company looked like they are clicking. On defense they let Taylor Heinicke have a great day. They are now traveling to play their divisional rival the New Orleans Saints. Tampa Bay has played the Saints twice this year losing both games. The last time was at home when they lost 38-3. Even in week one where they played in New Orleans, where this game will be taking place, the Bucs lost 34-23 and the game was not as close to what the final score was. Let’s see how this week game turns out.

Win the Turnover Battle

In the first two games this year, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have lost the turnover battle. Tampa Bay has turn the ball over six times. Five of those turnovers have come in the form of interceptions. The other turnover was a fumble. Either way for the Buccaneers to win this game they have to stay away from turnovers. The Saints have only had two in both games. The Bucs will need to cause turnovers. Drew Brees can and has thrown interceptions. If they can force them they will win this game. This is vital in any game no matter if it is regular season or postseason.

Running Game

The rushing attack for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers has been great over the last few weeks. This has been a problem in both games against the Saints. In the first game they only had 86 yards in the second one just eight yards. It looks like it’s time for Leonard Fournette, LeSean McCoy, Ke’Shawn Vaughn, and possibly Ronald Jones to shine. Jones is questionable with an injury. Nonetheless, the rest need to have a huge game. I know that Tom Brady could do it but it is nice having a ground game to keep the Saints defense on their toes. The Bucs will win if the rushing game helps the offense.

Pressure Drew Brees

Many say that Drew Brees is slowing down. He got hurt earlier in the year with many broken ribs and ruptured lung. If the Tampa Bay Buccaneers can put pressure on Brees and put him on the ground it will change his mental state. The Bucs will get back linebacker Devin White will be back one of the fastest players through the A-gap. He along with Jason Pierre-Paul, Shaq Barrett, Lavonte David, and Ndamukong Suh will all have to pressure him. They have only sacked him twice in the first two games. I can see Todd Bowles blitzing Brees to get him off his game.

I know that many will say that the New Orleans Saints should win because they have beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the last five times. If the Bucs can play a solid game and stay away from making mistakes they can win and move on to the NFC Championship. I think they can win the game if they with the turnover battle, have a good running game, and pressure Drew Brees. The game will take place on Sunday night, Januray 17. Let us see who comes out on top.
