Philadelphia Phillies: They Need to Sign Jackie Bradley Jr. Now

The Philadelphia Phillies have been pretty quiet this offseason, but they need to shake things up and get loud by signing Jackie Bradley Jr.

The center field spot is one the Phillies need to address before the 2021 season begins.

Bradley is a great defender and that would be the main reason why Philly would sign him to a three or four-year deal.

Last season, Bradley hit .283 in 55 games. He also tallied 22 ribbies and seven homers for Boston.

In 2019, the left-handed bat launched 62 RBIs and 21 dingers.

It makes too much sense for the Phillies to join forces with Jackie Bradley Jr. Here are additional reasons below.

No More Cutch

Andrew McCutchen is in the final year of a three-year contract and it would be beneficial for the Phils to move him to left field or make him a DH, if possible.

Guys like Roman Quinn and Adam Haseley haven’t been all that impressive and they should either find opportunities elsewhere or sit on the bench.

You know what you’re getting with Jackie Bradley Jr. and it helps that the veteran has played in a World Series with the Red Sox.

He was also the ALCS MVP in 2018.

McCutchen will be 35 in October and it’s important to avoid playing him in center field so that he has less ground to cover.

Cutch can still hit a little bit. After all, the former NL MVP smacked 10 homers and drove in 34 runs last season.

Win-Now Mode

Yes, the Phillies might be retooling in 2021 since they have a weak minor league system and it appears as though they don’t want to spend a ton of money right now.

However, signing Bradley shouldn’t break the bank and it would help Philly on the field.

It also looks like the Phils want to find cheaper options to fix their bullpen.

Philly needs to bring back J.T. Realmuto and Didi Gregorius if possible, but they also need upgrades in the infield. Scott Kingery and Jean Segura should be replaced and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Phillies found cheaper options to replace them.

The Phils can’t afford to waste Bryce Harper, Alec Bohm, and Joe Girardi, especially when every team in the NL East is getting better.

New Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski has a history of winning in MLB and he should find a way to send the franchise in a better direction.

He is familiar with Bradley when the two were in Boston.

Best of the Best

Jackie Bradley Jr. needs a change of scenery with Boston trying to improve its pitching staff.

If he can go to another northeast team and help bring home a championship that just adds to his legacy as a player.

With not many good center fielders available via trade or free agency this winter, Philly really has to consider bringing in Bradley in order to help speed up their retooling process.

I’m not saying the Phillies will be a World Series team with him, but Bradley will at least assist them in keeping pace with the rest of their division.

Do you think Jackie Bradley Jr. should go to the Philadelphia Phillies?
