Washington Football Team: Good, Bad, WTF vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Washington Football Team won the NFC East for the first time since 2012. They returned to the playoffs for the first time in five years. The outcome was not what fans expected. Washington lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31-23. Nonetheless, this was a great season for Washington (more on this in a later article). Washington did some good in this game and some not so good in this game on Saturday Night. In saying that, let us look at the Good, the Bad, and the WTF from the Washington Football Team’s return to the playoffs.
Heinick got his second career start because Alex Smith’s calf injury did not respond to treatment this week. What a great start it was. The kid was amazing. He avoided multiple sacks with his legs. Hit some throws to his receivers. He even played the later part of the game with a separated AC Joint in his left shoulder. Heinicke finished the game with 306 yards passing while completing 26 of his 44 pass attempts. He also had one passing TD and one INT. Along with those passing stats, Heinicke finished the game as Washington’s leading rusher. He tallied 46 yards on six carries with one TD.
Sims had a career game in his first postseason action for Washington. He was Heinicke’s main target on the night. Sims had seven catches on thirteen targets for 104 yards. he most certainly made a case to become the number two or three WR on this team going into 2021. The Washington Football Team will get Kelvin Harmon back in ‘21 as well. If the team could add a veteran at this position, the receiving corps could become one of the best in the league.

The league’s number two overall defense did not show up. They let Tom Brady and the Buccaneers offense do what they wanted to Saturday Night. Brady finished the game with 381 yards passing, two TDS, and zero INTs. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers also ran the ball at will. The put up 142 yards aground. All in all, the Bucs had 507 yards of total offense.
Byron Leftwhich and the Buccaneers offensive staff were on their game Saturday. The plays he was calling and the execution of those plays show that the Bucs are catching their strode at the right time. The Washington Football Team had no answer for much of what the Bucs tried to do. They will need to put some more pieces in place to advance further in future playoff endeavors.
There was not a lot of extreme bad from the Washington Football Team. Had their defense showed up the upset was well within reach. Thanks in part to a great game from a QB who was recently taking finals for his degree.
The Washington Football Team played one of their best games of the 2020-21 season. While they did not have the ending they wanted, they did more than anyone thought they would. It is going to be interesting to see what this team does in the future. It certainly is bright.
