Dejounte Murray the Future of the San Antonio Spurs?
The San Antonio Spurs are currently going through a retooling and a little bit of a rebuilding phase with head coach Greg Popovich. Dejounte Murray is going to be a part of that core for a long time to come. Murray was one of the reasons why the San Antonio Spurs took down the Los Angeles Clippers by a final score of 116-113.
Dejounte Murray was the 29th overall pick back in the first-round in the 2016 NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs. He played his college basketball at the University of Washington.
Murray is only 24 years old and his game is only going to get better. He scored 21 points. Dejounte Murray shot 50 percent from the field. He also grabbed five rebounds, recorded five assists, and recorded two steals. Murray is one of the most underrated point guards in the NBA.
His name is not on the map yet, but it is going to be sooner rather than later. Tony Parker was the starting point guard for San Antonio for a very long time before Murray came around.
Patty Mills is the other point guard on the San Antonio Spurs and he is coming off the bench.
Dejounte Murray is the heartbeat and the heart and soul of the San Antonio Spurs. He continues to get better every single day with his game and also his craft also.
The Spurs are a very good organization. They also have a very good scouting department. Even though they have not drafted at the top of the NBA Draft in a very long time, San Antonio knows how to find very good and vauabale players later in the NBA Draft.
Lonnie Walker IV, Keldon Johnson, Devin Vassell, and Jakob Poeltl will be some of the young core pieces moving forward in the future as well here.
Those players have also seen valuable minutes this season, along with Dejounte Murray. They missed the playoffs last season for the first time in over 20 years. That is a remarkable achievement. San Antonio is currently 3-4 to start the season and they ended a four-game losing streak.
They will continue to go through growing pains throughout the regular season. The playoffs is very possible for them this season because the playoffs expanded to 10 teams just for this season. The regular season consists of 72 games and we will see how far Dejounte Murray and the San Antonio Spurs have grown once this season comes to a close.
But for right now, they are just experimenting and seeing what works. Having veterans like Rudy Gay, LaMarcus Aldridge, and DeMar DeRozan on the roster also help here as well.
I don’t remember Dejounte Murray being this effective in college at the University of Washington. Well, he isn’t the only point guard to make a name for himself out of the University of Washington. Markelle Fultz also has with the Orlando Magic, after being traded from the Philadelphia 76ers and also being a former number one overall pick back in the 2017 NBA Draft.
Dejounte Murray hopes to bring back championship banners into San Antonio, Texas, one day, but it is about growing and building chemistry as a team and as a unit at the moment here as well.
