New York Giants: Miss the Playoffs but the Future is Bright
The New York Giants (6-10) would need a win on Sunday afternoon at home to keep their playoff hopes alive momentarily. The Dallas Cowboys (6-10) were looking to knock New York out of playoff contention, but the Giants took out Dallas by a final score of 23-19.
The last couple of minutes of the football game had some crazy sequences. The first one was where Xavier McKinney picked off Andy Dalton with 1:15 remaining in regulation. Leonard Williams forced pressure on that throw and dropped Dalton twice. Williams had 10.5 sacks to finish the regular season for the New York Giants and he will get paid by them hopefully this offseason.
The defense sacked Andy Dalton five times in this football game and they could have potentially sacked him more. Defensive Coordinator Patrick Graham deserves a ton of credit for this defense.
The second crazy sequence was that Wayne Gallman Jr. fumbled after picking up the first down on a run to seal the game. There was a chance that the Dallas Cowboys recovered the fumble, but the New York Giants had it.
Whenever Dallas has a chance to potentially win the NFC East crown in a pivotal Week 17 contest, they fail to get it done.
Gallman Jr. rushed for 65 yards on 11 carries.
Daniel Jones completed 17-of-25 passes for 229 yards two touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed for 17 yards on nine carries.
Jones played one of his best games this season for the New York Giants. He and Head Coach Joe Judge hugged it out after the football game was over.
Daniel Jones is the heart and soul of the New York Giants football team and club. It is obvious they are committed to him in the long term here as well.
Sterling Shepard caught eight passes for 112 yards receiving and a touchdown. He also rushed for 24 yards on two carries and a touchdown.
Dante Pettis caught two passes for 43 yards receiving and a touchdown. He is playing for them since being waived by the San Francisco 49ers. Pettis may be a factor in this offense moving forward.
Darius Slayton caught two passes for 22 yards receiving. He hasn’t been very good this season.
Evan Engram caught two passes for 17 yards receiving. He has butterfingers and led to another Daniel Jones interception and it almost cost the New York Giants the football game. Engram needs to go at the end of the season.
Offensive Coordinator Jason Garrett was able to knock his former team out of the playoffs. Garrett may not stay beyond this season, but it was a nice feeling for him.
As for General Manager Dave Gettleman, it will be unknown what happens and there are speculations he will be out as the general manager.
The Washington Football Team (7-9) took down The Philadelphia Eagles (4-11-1) on Sunday Night Football. Thus, Washington won the NFC East knocking New York out of the playoffs.
The Giants have not won the division since 2011. That was when they went onto win the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots.
The New York Giants would have faced the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tom Brady.
