Washington Football Team: Five Keys to Plucking the Philadelphia Eagles
Week 17 in the NFL. There is so much at stake this week for several teams. Twelves of the sixteen game scheduled have some sort of playoff implication. One of those games features the Washington Football Team. They travel to take Pennsylvania to take on the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday Night. If Washington wins, they are in the playoffs. They will be the four seed and the winner of the NFC East. Can they win? Most certainly. Here are five keys on how they can pluck the Eagles.
As of this writing, it looks as though Alex Smith will start for the Washington Football Team. However, if he shows any sign of being ineffective, Ron Rivera needs to have a quick hook to Taylor Heinicke. The Eagles defense will be very short-handed. This should play right into the hands of either QB. Whoever is under center for Washington needs to play smart and let the playmakers handle the load.
The running game for Washington should see success on Sunday night. The Philadelphia Eagles will be without star defensive linemen Fletcher Cox and Derek Barnett. Couple this with the way that the Washington offensive line has been pushing teams around and there are plenty of holes to run through. A solid running game will only help take the load off whoever is under center,
The Washington Football Team run defense has had its fair share of issues this season. Several teams have gashed them. Last week, the Carolina Panthers had an entire drive in which they ran the ball. That is heartbreaking to a defense that had played so well. While the Eagles will be without star RB Miles Sanders, Boston Scott is certainly more than capable of carrying the load. The Washington front and linebackers will need to step up this week and dominate.
The best way to keep a less superior team in a game is by giving them a short field to work with. That is what Washington will have to avoid on Sunday. Last week Washington turned the ball over four times in the game. All in the first half. This put them behind the proverbial eight ball early. Washington is a better team and thus, they need to avoid these types of plays to put the Eagles away.
The Washington Football Team’s offensive line is underrated. They have played very well this season. Especially during the team’s winning streak. With the less than stellar defense that the Eagles are going to deploy on Sunday, I expect the OL for Washington to step up, open holes for the RBs, and give the QBs time to throw. If they can bring their “A” game Washington should see themselves as the NFC East Division Champions at the end of Sunday Night.
This win or game home for the Washington Football Team is a big one. Yes, the division is less than stellar this season. That does not matter. What does matter is for this young team to get into the playoffs. Winning is the best way to fix culture and that is what Washington needs to do.
