New England Patriots: Would They Take Justin Fields if he Slips?

The New England Patriots got demolished to the Buffalo Bills on Monday night football at home by a final score of 38-9. New England has no franchise quarterback moving forward with Cam Newton or Jarrett Stidham. Could Justin Fields slip to the 14th pick in the NFL Draft?

Well, that is where New England would be picking if the season ended today. I am sure the Patriots may want to lose in Week 17 in order to get a high enough draft pick in order to trade up for a quarterback.

Trevor Lawrence of Clemson will definitely go Number 1 to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The New York Jets at number two, the Carolina Panthers at number nine, or the Denver Broncos at number 10 will take either Zach Wilson of BYU or Trey Lance of North Dakota State.

That leaves Justin Fields of Ohio State potentially available at number 14. Fields may slip because of Dwayne Haskins being released by The Washington Football Team on Monday.

Fields may get a bad reputation because of Haskins, but Justin Fields would be the perfect quarterback for Bill Belichick and Offensive Coordinator Josh McDaniels. New England has a ton of picks this season in case they need to move up the draft to get a quarterback.

Jarrett Stidham completed 4-of-11 passes for 44 yards.

Cam Newton completed 5-of-10 passes for 34 yards. He also rushed for 24 yards on four carries and a touchdown.

In six games this season at Ohio State, Justin Fields has completed 119-of-164 passes (72.6 completion percentage) for 1,521 yards 15 touchdowns, and five interceptions. He has also rushed for 274 yards on 67 carries and five touchdowns.

Ohio State will be facing Clemson in the Sugar Bowl in the College Football Playoff on New Year’s Day.

Justin Fields would be the heartbeat of the New England Patriots if he got drafted by them. It will be interesting to see where he lands in the NFL Draft and Fields is a better prospect than Dwyane Haskins ever was.

Fields and Bill Belichick would be a good match. Justin Fields won’t be as good as Tom Brady ever was, who departed for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in free agency in the offseason, but Justin Fields would be a good starting point for New England to get back on track.

They also need to draft and sign via free agency or via trade for some wide receivers as well here.

The AFC East could be the best division in football in a few years if New England gets it right at quarterback and if New York gets it right with its new head coach and rebuild and it also depends on what they do with quarterback Sam Darnold in the offseason as well here.

For now, Josh Allen, Sean McDermott, and the Buffalo Bills are the class of the AFC East and Tua Tagovailoa, Brian Flores, and the Miami Dolphins are right behind them with a bright future also.

Do you think the New England Patriots should draft quarterback Justin Fields from Ohio State with the 14th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft? Leave a comment below.
