Buffalo Bills: Are They the Favorites to Win the AFC?
The Buffalo Bills were facing the New England Patriots on the road on Monday night football. New England always dominated Buffalo in recent years. However, the Bills crushed the Patriots on the road by a final score of 38-9.
Does this make Buffalo one of the favorites to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl?
I think it does because they are most likely going to walk away with the number two seed in the AFC. They would have at least two home games in the AFC Playoffs and potentially a third if the Kansas City Chiefs (14-1) slipped up in the AFC Divisional Round.
Now, New England must know what it felt like what Buffalo has been suffering through for the past several years. The Patriots had Bill Belichick and Tom Brady.
The Bills now have Sean McDermott and Josh Allen. This could be the next dynamic duo in the AFC East for the next decade, but they have to worry about the Miami Dolphins moving forward with Brian Flores and Tua Tagovailoa.
However, at the moment, Buffalo is better than Miami. This is going to be a heated rivalry between those two teams for years to come.
The New England Patriots will need to rebuild and the New York Jets are a mess.
As for Buffalo, Josh Allen completed 27-of-36 passes for 320 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for 35 yards on four carries.
His top receiving target Stefon Diggs caught nine passes for 175 yards receiving and three touchdowns.
These two have been on point all season long. The Bills acquired Diggs in a trade this past offseason from the Minnesota Vikings.
Allen is the heart and soul of the Buffalo Bills. He has taken major strides in his game this season and he could potentially be a finalist for the MVP Award along with Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers and Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs.
Zack Moss led the team in rushing with 57 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown.
Dawson Knox caught three passes for 51 yards receiving. Knox is the number one tight end on the roster.
Gabriel Davis caught three passes for 33 yards receiving. Davis is the other outside wide receiver on the roster. He has a big frame and has potential at the position one day to be good.
Lee Smith caught two passes for 31 yards receiving and a touchdown. He is rarely involved in the offense.
Cole Beasley caught three passes for 17 yards receiving. He is the primary slot receiver on this football team and John Brown is also another slot wide receiver on this football team, but he has barely played this season.
In all likelihood, they will most likely be the second favorites in the AFC to get to the Super Bowl.
If their defense can stop the run and make key stops in critical situations, they will be just fine. If not, they will be in big-time trouble.
Other than Kansas City, they could face the Tennessee Titans (10-5), the Pittsburgh Steelers (12-3), the Indianapolis Colts (10-5), the Cleveland Browns (10-5), or the Baltimore Ravens (10-5) in the playoffs at some point, other than their divisional rivals in the Miami Dolphins.
The Buffalo Bills (12-3) next game will actually be at home this Sunday against the Miami Dolphins (10-5). With a Buffalo win, they will be the number two seed in the AFC. They can’t be the number four seed. They could be the number three seed.
The New England Patriots (6-9) will host the New York Jets (2-13) next Sunday.
