New England Patriots: Looking Ahead to Buffalo Bills Matchup

This is the first time in 11 years the New England Patriots will not participate in the postseason. That year Tom Brady was injured, and they finished the season 11-5 but did not make the playoffs.

The Miami Dolphins were the team that ended the streak and it ironic that it is a division rival. One of their other division rivals the Buffalo Bills won the AFC East in 2020.

The Patriots return home to play the division-winning Bills this Sunday. I would call this game just a game for both clubs. It could be important maybe for the Bills for seeding purposes. New England is trying to finish the season at a .500 winning percentage. To do that they have to beat the Bills and the New York Jets who took them to the breaking point earlier in the season. After a loss to the Dolphins let see how they do.

Buffalo Bills

This is a young team that we all knew had a bright future. Well, welcome to that future. Josh Allen has a great season and led the Bills to at this point an 11-3 record with a chance to finish the season at 13-3. Last Saturday they played the Denver Broncos and won the game 48-15. In that game, they never trailed.

With the win, they won the division for the first time since 1995. Earlier this year they beat the New England Patriots by three points 24-21 at home. They now have a chance of sweeping the season series. The Bills will be playing with a much better team this time around than they played in November. They are coming into this game on a four-game winning streak. If they play a solid game, they win to get their 12th win this week.

New England Patriots

The New England Patriots are left with many questions. It is weird to see them not going to the playoffs. Bill Belichick has got what he has gotten out of the players that he has on the roster.

Many of us thought it would be a tough season. It will take two good wins to finish the season 8-8. I could see them finishing 7-9. Many think that they are going to lose the Jets in week 17. Belichick continues to get asked about Cam Newton being his starting quarterback. He answers the same way yes.

This week will be tough the Buffalo Bills have a tough defense and already have a leg up beating the Patriots in November. I am hoping that New England comes out hungry and wants to win after losing the Miami Dolphins. Division games are always tough, and the last two will not be easy.

Kickoff is set for 8:15 PM EST on Monday. This will come after the Christmas holiday has passed. It will be at Gillette Stadium was it normally hard to win but with no fans, it makes it easier. The best part is the last two games will be at home. Newton can play well enough to help win the final two games. Josh Allen will be ready for that and help get the Buffalo Bills to their fifth straight win. Look for the game to be a grind it out AFC East game.
