New York Giants: Should Big Blue Draft Zach Wilson?

The New York Giants lost to the Cleveland Browns 20-6 on Sunday night football and New York now has a slim chance to make it to the playoffs. They would currently own the 10th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Would the Giants draft quarterback Zach Wilson from BYU with that selection?

Well, here is what is very interesting. Just a couple of weeks ago, everyone was talking about how General Manager Dave Gettleman would be keeping his job after they upset the Seattle Seahawks on the road. In the last two weeks, the New York Giants have laid eggs and we were right after all.

Head Coach Joe Judge has been covering for Dave Gettleman’s deficiencies after all. Judge has his players playing hard and there is nothing wrong with his game plan of being aggressive, but they don’t have the players to do it.

It all starts with drafting and they have no offense at all. If Dave Gettleman is fired, I do not see Joe Judge inheriting Daniel Jones as the starting quarterback in 2021. Judge has no ties to Jones and the new general manager will not either. It is possible that Joe Judge will have a lot of say in player personnel just like his former boss Bill Belichick did with the New England Patriots.

Here is why Zach Wilson could be with the New York Giants at number 10. New York feels like Daniel Jones is not the guy and he is a turnover machine like Ryan Leaf. Joe Judge and the Giants feel like they could have won the NFC East if it wasn’t for his porous play. Remember, they started 1-7 and a lot had to do with his poor play.

The Washington Football Team is probably going to win the division even though New York beat them twice and it is an ugly feeling.

The Giants may not even finish ahead of the Dallas Cowboys or the Philadelphia Eagles when it all said and done.

The Jacksonville Jaguars would take Trevor Lawrence from Clemson with the first pick at the quarterback position.

The New York Jets would either trade down or take someone else other than Justin Fields from Ohio State at number two at the quarterback position. Sam Darnold could stay on after all with New York.

The Cincinnati Bengals don’t need a quarterback at number three.

The Carolina Panthers could take Justin Fields at number four and he could sit behind Teddy Bridgewater for a season or two.

The Atlanta Falcons would take defensive help with the number five pick.

The Miami Dolphins (from the Houston Texans) would take the best player available with the number six pick.

The Philadelphia Eagles would take a skilled player like a wide receiver at number seven.

The Dallas Cowboys would take defensive help with the eighth pick as they would have quarterback Dak Prescott coming back next season. That is as long as Dallas signs him to a contract extension.

The Los Angeles Chargers would take the next best available player at number nine because they already have rookie sensation quarterback Justin Herbert.

This is why the 10th pick makes so much sense for the New York Giants to draft quarterback Zach Wilson out of BYU.

He has completed 221-of-302 passes for 3,267 yards 30 touchdowns and three interceptions.

Wilson can roll out of the pocket and he passes more efficiently in college than Daniel Jones did out of Duke University. Zack Wilson can read defenses better than Jones can.

Offensive Coordinator Jason Garrett could develop him just like he did with Dak Prescott and Tony Romo in Dallas. Wilson has a similar skill set to Prescott, but Wilson might have a higher upside.

Zach Wilson will be the heart and soul of an NFL team one day. Wilson has the skillset to succeed at the next level.

Wilson is going to be an upgrade over Daniel Jones.

He can’t seem to be healthy and a lot of people may feel like that he is not the answer that just replaced Eli Manning. Manning recently retired here.

They will also be getting a healthy running back next season in Saquon Barkley, but they are going to have to draft a wide receiver or two. They also should attempt to sign Allen Robinson II from the Chicago Bears in the offseason to improve the wide receiver corps on the New York Giants.

Zach Wilson would have the potential to succeed from day one behind an improved offensive line with the New York Giants, a healthy Saquon Barkley, Allen Robinson II, another rookie wide receiver to develop for years to come, Evan Engram, Kaden Smith, Wayne Gallman Jr., and others.

Wilson would be a cool, calm, and collective leader for the New York Giants if they drafted him and traded Daniel Jones in the offseason.

Colt McCoy could stay as the backup. He completed 19-of-31 passes for 221 yards. McCoy also rushed for one yard on one carry.

Freddie Kitchens was the offensive coordinator in this football game for the New York Giants due to Jason Garrett being out due to the Coronavirus.

The Cleveland Browns (10-4) next game will be on the road on Sunday against the New York Jets (1-13).

The New York Giants (5-9) next game will be on the road on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens (9-5).
