Chicago Bears: David Montgomery Solidifies the Bears Backfield
The Chicago Bears had their slim playoff hopes alive when they went on the road against the Minnesota Vikings. Chicago has been clicking on offense the past couple of weeks. The Bears decided to run the football effectively in this football game and David Montgomery led them to a 33-27 win over Minnesota.
Head Coach Matt Nagy has decided to open up the running game with Montgomery. It has been non-existent all season long and the last two weeks it is working for them.
Quarterback Mitchell Trubisky has been a perfect complimentary piece for him and Nick Foles really has not been all season long. Tarik Cohen and Cordarelle Patterson is not the answer in the backfield.
Montgomery is becoming the player the Chicago Bears thought he was going to be when they drafted him. He rushed for 146 yards on 32 carries and two touchdowns. David Montgomery also caught one pass for 16 yards receiving.
He is the heartbeat of the Chicago Bears backfield. It is not one of the deepest positions on this football team.
The Chicago Bears are going to need to stay committed to the running game the final two games of the regular season. Chicago is going to need to win its last two games and also get some help in order to get to the playoffs this season.
The Bears have been tremendously defensively all season long and the offense has been playing better as of late.
Mitchell Trubisky completed 15-of-21 passes for 202 yards one touchdown and one interception. He also rushed had eight carries for 34 yards receiving.
Allen Robinson was the leading receiver in this football game for Chicago with four receptions for 83 yards receiving.
Darnell Mooney caught four passes for 49 yards receiving and a touchdown.
Anyways, this end of the season run because of David Montgomery may save the jobs of Head Coach Matt Nagy and General Manager Ryan Pace for the now and in the moment.
There has been no identity with this offense all season long. David Montgomery is getting better with more reps. Maybe this is what he needed. The Chicago Bears are a tough-nosed football team and maybe this is the identity this football team needs moving forward.
David Montgomery is very talented. He can catch passes out of the backfield and he can also run behind the tackle and between the guards.
Montgomery has a chance to carry this football team into the playoffs. If the Philadelphia Eagles (4-9-1) would have beaten the Arizona Cardinals (8-6), Chicago could get into seventh place in the NFC at the end of the day.
The Chicago Bears (7-7) next game will be on the road next Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars (1-13).
The Minnesota Vikings (6-8) next game will be on the road this Friday on Christmas Day against the New Orleans Saints (10-3).
