Los Angeles Chargers: Justin Herbert Becoming a Super Star
The Los Angeles Chargers have one of the most talented rosters in the NFL this season. Los Angeles hasn’t won many football games because of Head Coach Anthony Lynn this season. Justin Herbert carried the Chargers on the road and he scored the game-winning 1-yard rushing touchdown with less than 1:30 remaining in overtime in a 30-27 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.
Herbert continues to impress and make plays every single game. He wasn’t even supposed to play at all this season. Justin Herbert was the sixth overall pick out of the University of Oregon. He was the backup for the first week of the season to Tyrod Taylor.
Taylor’s lung was punctured 20 minutes before Week 2 kickoff at home against the Kansas City Chiefs. Herbert’s number was called upon and he has never looked back ever since. Justin Herbert could potentially be the Offensive Rookie of the Year along with Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson.
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow was also in the running until he got hurt and tore his ACL.
Herbert in the game against the Las Vegas Raiders completed 22-of-32 passes for 314 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 14 yards on four carries and a touchdown.
Justin Herbert is the heartbeat of the Los Angeles Chargers. He can make big plays with his arm or his feet at any moment in the football game.
Herbert has so much talent around him. Keenan Allen, who caught one pass for 17 yards receiving and Mike Williams, who caught two passes for 22 yards receiving, was on a limited snap count in the game on Thursday night.
Those are the primary top two wide receiver targets on the roster. Jalen Guyton and Tyron Johnson acted as the top two wide receivers on the roster for most of the game. K.J. Hill acted as the slot wide receiver for most of the game and Hunter Henry is a very good tight end.
The Chargers need to sign Henry to a contract extension once the season ends.
Guyton caught four passes for 91 yards receiving.
Henry caught five passes for 65 yards receiving and a touchdown.
Johnson caught three passes for 61 yards receiving and a touchdown.
Hill caught three passes for 39 yards receiving.
Austin Ekeler is their top running back on the roster. Ekeler rushed for 60 yards on 13 carries. He also caught four passes for 19 yards receiving.
Justin Herbert is going to be the reason why coaches who are looking for jobs will want this job.
He has tied Baker Mayfield of the Cleveland Browns with 27 touchdown passes for a rookie from the 2018 season. Herbert should be able to break that mark in the final two games.
Justin Herbert had so many questions coming out of college. His accuracy was the biggest question. However, his raw athleticism is taking over and is playing better around better players. He is big and strong.
Justin Herbert is going to be a star in this league for years to come and he has the chance to win a Super Bowl one day. The Los Angeles Chargers have not ever won a Super Bowl Title in franchise history.
Herbert has many chances to compete against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs for many years to come in the AFC West.
The Los Angeles Chargers once again spoil the Las Vegas Raiders playoff hopes. They are now dashed. The last time the Chargers did that to the Raiders was when the Chargers were in San Diego and when the Raiders were in Oakland back in 2011 when the quarterbacks were Philip Rivers and Jason Campbell.
The Los Angeles Chargers (5-9) will host the Denver Broncos (5-8) next Sunday.
The Las Vegas Raiders (7-7) will host the Miami Dolphins (8-5) next Saturday night.
