Army-Navy: Scoping Out the Long-Standing Rivalry
The Army-Navy game is more than just football. These gentlemen are going off to serve our country in their respectable branch. This game is one of the most important games of the year and normally has nothing to do with the national championship game. This is a game that I do not miss. These two teams, along with the Air Force Falcons battle for the Commander in Chief trophy. Which is a trophy and bragging rights among the branches minus of course the Marine Corps that does not have a football team. This year will be quite different as normally both Army and Navy have cadets that fill the stands. With the Covid-19 pandemic that will not occur. It is one of the coolest sites to see as the cadets get electric when their team scores and wins the game. Let’s see who takes it home this year in a special 2020.
Army Black Knights
The Black Knights come into the game with a 7-2 record. The two teams that they lost two are the number eight ranked Cincinnati Bearcats and the other the Tulane Green Wave. Both teams come out of the AAC. Army won last week by one point 28-27 over Georgia Southern Eagles. The touchdown scored in the fourth quarter was the difference-maker. The Eagles outplayed Army they won in every category but the scoreboard. Up until last year, Army had won the game three years in a row. The Black Knights will be looking to get revenge and back on the winning path after losing last year 31-7. Following this game against the Midshipmen, they will play Air Force. That game will determine who wins the Commander in Chief Trophy. The Black Knights are a good team and should have enough to win.
This is one of those seasons that Navy would like to forget. The Midshipmen only have three wins. They have lost to the Air Force Falcons 40- 7. The Midshipmen would like to win two years in a row over the Army Black Knights. Navy comes into this game off a loss to the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes who are going to play in the AAC Championship game. One of the teams that the Black Knights lost to the Midshipmen defeated in Tulane. This will be Navy final game and they will get ready for a new set of cadets in 2021. The Midshipmen always play Army tough and I do not except anything different. It was a tough time to lose to Air Force and they do not want to lose to Army as well.
Kickoff is set for 2 PM EST. It has been moved to Michie Stadium at West Point. That happened because of the coronavirus pandemic. Many wanted the game to be canceled but they will play on. I respect that this game is one of the best that college football has to offer. Also, I am hoping that the game is competitive. I know there have been blowouts in the past when these two teams have met. The Army Black Knights will look to win then beat the Air Force Falcons next week. On the other hand, the Navy Midshipman will look to ruin their biggest rivals’ chance at the Commander in Chief Trophy.
