Kansas City Chiefs: Are They Actually Flawed?
The Kansas City Chiefs are the defending Super Bowl Champions, but they are starting to show signs of fatigue in the past couple of weeks. Kansas City struggled to defeat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Chiefs struggled with the Denver Broncos, but prevailed on a Tyrann Mathieu interception on Drew Lock in a 22-16 win.
Kansas City has not lost since Week 5 of the NFL Season against the Las Vegas Raiders, but the Chiefs have a tough upcoming schedule. The offense is struggling to score touchdowns. They have been kicking field goals instead.
Kansas City was down 16-12 at the time and it turned out to be the game-winning touchdown pass.
Patrick Mahomes completed 25-of-40 passes for 318 yards and one touchdown.
He also rushed for 26 yards on four carries.
Patrick Mahomes is the heart and soul of the Kansas City Chiefs. He will be one of the favorites to win the MVP Award this season. Mahomes has already won one in his career here.
This was one of Mahomes’ better games of the regular season.
Travis Kelce caught eight passes for 136 yards receiving and a touchdown. He is one of the best tight ends in the NFL so far this regular season.
Tyreek Hill caught six passes for 58 yards receiving and a touchdown. He is one of the fastest wide receivers in the NFL. There was a play in the game where a replay showed he had a touchdown, but he thought he didn’t make the catch.
Le’Veon Bell rushed for 40 yards on 11 carries. He also caught two passes for 15 yards receiving.
Bell started in place of first-round pick Clyde Edwards-Helaire. He was out of this game due to an illness.
Demarcus Robinson caught two passes for 39 yards receiving.
Sammy Watkins caught four passes for 35 yards receiving.
Harrison Butker kicked and made all five of his field goals in this game. The longest field goal he made was from 48 yards out. It will be interesting to see if he has to kick that many field goals again this season.
It is possible that a Super Bowl hangover could catch up to this football team sooner rather than later.
Andy Reid, the head coach, Eric Bieniemy, the offensive coordinator, and Steve Spagnuolo, the defensive coordinator, hope this doesn’t happen.
As of right now, they are the number two seed in the AFC.
The Pittsburgh Steelers (11-1) lost to The Washington Football Team (5-7) on Monday afternoon. Even with that loss, Kansas City remains the number two seed in the AFC. This is because the Steelers have a better conference record.
The Chiefs has also not been the same this season. Chris Jones has been contained a lot more this season. If the season ended today, they would face the Indianapolis Colts (7-4) in the first-round of the NFL Playoffs.
The two first-round byes are gone with having seven playoff seeds in the NFC and the AFC.
The Denver Broncos (4-8) next game will be on the road against the Carolina Panthers (4-8) next Sunday.
The Kansas City Chiefs (11-1) next game will be on the road against the Miami Dolphins (8-4) next Sunday.
I think they could still find a way to get to the Super Bowl, but other teams like the Tennessee Titans (8-4) and the Buffalo Bills (8-3) are coming for them as well here.
