Florida Gators: A Look Ahead to Tennessee Volunteers
The Florida Gators notched another win this past week against the Kentucky Wildcats. It that time of their season to play the Tennessee Volunteers. This other than the game against the Georgia Bulldogs is a game that could have major implications in the SEC East. Many of the experts had the Volunteers as a team that would give the Gators and Bulldogs a run for the title. They were wrong at the present moment the Gators are in the driver’s seat. This game normally takes place earlier in the season but due to coronavirus, it was rescheduled. The next game that Florida will play will be a makeup game against the LSU Tigers. The Tennessee game was supposed to conclude this season. The Wildcats gave the Florida defense some fits but they adjusted. Look for them to try and get to have a complete game this week.
Kyle Trask continues to push towards another Florida Gators quarterback winning the Heisman. He had another three-touchdown game against the Wildcats. Trask also got back his favorite target in Kyle Pitts. The offense has been a well-oiled machine since the start of the season. At the present moment, they are fifth all-time in team history with the most points scored through eight games. Two of those teams in that list won national championships. The defense has been the question mark in some cases they get off to slow starts but adjust and make a game out of it. Last week they got three turnovers which is something they have not been able to do most of the season. This week against the Volunteers I think they can get more turnovers as they did against Kentucky. They are making progressions as they push towards the SEC Championship against Alabama.
The Volunteers have had a season they will like to forget. They may have bought into the hype they were getting earlier in the season. The Vols won their first two games the first one over the South Carolina Gamecocks by four points. The following week at home they beat the Missouri Tigers by 23 points. Since then they have been on a five-game losing streak which is the first time that has happened in program history. The closest that Tennessee has come to a win in the last five games is 11 points. That was their last game two weeks ago against the Auburn Tigers. This week they will be at home but this outside of Alabama will be their toughest challenge. I am sure they would love to spoil the Florida Gators’ chances at the SEC championship berth.
The game will kick off at 3:30 PM EST. It will be shown on CBS. To me, this will be the game where the Florida Gators make a statement. After this, it will be wrapped up in the SEC East. The Gators will have two remaining games one against the defending national champions LSU Tigers and then the SEC title game against the Alabama Crimson Tide. Unless the Tide have something go wrong with their remaining schedule. The Vols could be looking for a new coach after this season. Look for the Gators to dominate this upcoming Saturday.
