New York Giants: How Long Can They Stay In First Place?
The New York Giants started the 2020 season 0-5 and it looked as if they were heading down the tracks of 0-16. However, they have gotten better every single week and are 4-2 in the last six games, including a 19-17 win for New York over the Cincinnati Bengals.
At the moment, the Giants are in first place in the NFC East. They have also won three consecutive games and this is the first time since the 2016 season this has happened. That was also the last time they made it to the NFL postseason.
In order for New York to stay in first place after Week 12, they will need the Philadelphia Eagles (3-6-1) to lose to the Seattle Seahawks (7-3) on Monday night football.
The Giants have beaten The Washington Football Team (4-7) twice and the Dallas Cowboys (3-8) are currently in last place in the NFC East.
Two of the biggest stories in this win for New York was the defense and also the injury to quarterback Daniel Jones.
Once again, the defense continues to be impressive, especially late in football games. They forced several turnovers in this game and also sacked Brandon Allen a few times.
Niko Lalos also had his very first career interception as well in this game.
This is also the 700th career win in New York Giants franchise history.
Daniel Jones played well in this game until he got hurt. He completed 16-of-27 passes for 213 yards. Jones also rushed for 19 yards on six carries.
Jones is the heartbeat and the heart and soul of the New York Giants football club and team. Hopefully his injury isn’t too serious.
Daniel Jones also has not committed a turnover in three consecutive games as well.
Colt McCoy completed 6-of-10 passes for 31 yards passing. He also rushed for seven yards on five carries.
Wayne Gallman Jr. rushed for 94 yards on 24 carries and a touchdown. He has been playing well for this team lately.
Evan Engram was the leading receiver in this game for the Giants with six receptions for 129 yards receiving.
Sterling Shepard caught seven passes for 64 yards receiving.
We will see how the New York Giants continue to play moving forward. Their is obviously going to be one team that makes it to the playoffs out of the NFC East.
They have not won the division title since 2011 and New York actually won the Super Bowl that season with a 9-7 record. It will probably take 6-10 or 7-9 to win the NFC East this season. It would be a surprise to see them go 8-8 or 9-7.
This team is getting better everyday because of Head Coach Joe Judge, Offensive Coordinator Jason Garrett, and Defensive Coordinator Patrick Graham.
General Manager Dave Gettleman’s job maybe saved in this one but it is still highly unlikely as well. It will be interesting to see what would happen moving forward as well with the New York Giants.
The New York Giants (4-7) will play next Sunday on the road against the Seattle Seahawks (7-3).
The Cincinnati Bengals (2-8-1) next game will be against the Miami Dolphins (7-4) on the road next Sunday.
