Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Should the Team Have Kept Jameis Winston?
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 7-4 so far this season despite having primetime struggles with Tom Brady at the helm. Blaine Gabbert is the backup quarterback on the roster as Tampa Bay decided to let Jameis Winston walk in the offseason.
The biggest question now is, should they have kept Winston? Some think maybe yes and some think maybe no.
Like lots of things in life, everything has its pros and cons. They should not have kept him because he turned the ball over way too much and Tampa Bay only won seven games last season. They are already at last season’s win mark.
However, the Buccaneers should have kept him because he is younger and more mobile than Tom Brady is. Some people believed that Brady is washed up and can’t lead them to a Super Bowl title.
This will be one of the biggest storylines as the rest of the season progresses. Tom Brady is 43 years old.
So far this season, he has completed 280-of-433 of his passes (64.7 completion percentage) for 2,955 yards 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
Jameis Winston completed 380-of-626 of his passes (60.7 completion percentage) for 5,109 yards 33 touchdowns and 30 interceptions in 2019.
Brady will throw for more touchdowns than Winston at the end of the season. He will also have a better completion percentage and have fewer interceptions.
Winston is currently the backup quarterback for the New Orleans Saints and he is only 26 years old as well. Jameis Winston is currently learning from Head Coach Sean Payton, Drew Brees, and Taysom Hill as well.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Head Coach Bruce Arians and Offensive Coordinator Byron Leftwich need to use more motion in their offense.
In reality, bringing in Tom Brady for Jameis Winston was the right move for the short term. It also addresses the turnover reality. For a long term reality? Probably not. Tampa Bay has one of the best rosters in the NFL.
The quarterback room is the heartbeat of this football team. It is also the most important position in the NFL.
The simple way to take down Tom Brady is to get a pass rush on him. If they don’t get a pass rush on him, you will basically lose all the time.
Brady isn’t having a bad season and it is definitely better than what Winston did last season. Tom Brady has two pick sixes this season and Jameis Winston had six to seven of them during the 2019 season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as well.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made the right move, but it looks like it is not going to help them win the NFC because they will most likely be a wild card team. It will be tough to beat teams like the Seattle Seahawks (7-3), the Los Angeles Rams (7-3), or the New Orleans Saints (8-2), whom they already lost to twice.
Their chances of playing the Super Bowl (LV) a Raymond James Stadium, in Tampa Bay, Florida, on February 7th, is dwindling more and more every day.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7-4) next game will be against the Kansas City Chiefs (9-1) at home this Sunday.
