New England Patriots: Three Studs versus Houston Texans

The New England Patriots took a step back as they try and make the playoffs. This was a game that many believe should have won. Instead, the Patriots fell to the Houston Texans 27-20. On top of the loss, they may have lost Rex Burkhead for the season. New England medical personnel believe that he might have torn his ACL tendon. He has been part of a running game that has been decent all year. The loss will make it harder to make the playoffs. This was also their chance to get back to the .500 record. The Patriots now sit at 4-6 and if they lose again it might be the first time, they do not make the postseason in a long time. This game was a lot more important to the Patriots than the Texans because Houston is far from making the playoffs.

Deshaun Watson

Watson has another good game against the New England Patriots. He seems to have those types of games when he plays against the Patriots. Watson went 28/37 for 33 yards and two touchdowns. The good news he threw no interceptions in the game. The two touchdowns were caught by Keke Coutee and Randall Cobb. Watson also had six carries for 36 yards and one touchdown. It still shows that he can win with both his arm and legs. The Texans are not playing for much this season, but no one knows what the future may look like. Watson is one of the bright aspects of Houston.

Brandin Cooks

Cooks was at one time with the New England Patriots. In today’s’ game he had four catches for 85 yards. He was targeted five times so that means he only had one that he was unable to catch. Even though he did not catch one of the two touchdowns passes that Deshaun Watson threw he was still a factor. Cooks has been that type of receiver even when he was not in a Texan’s uniform. The longest catch he had was for 44 yards which were most of his yards. Look for Cooks to be a weapon for Watson and the Houston offense for the rest of 2020.

Damiere Byrd

When I wrote my preview piece for this game, I mentioned Jacobi Myers. Well, the Texans defense must have got the memo. In today’s’ game it was Damiere Byrd as the leading receiver for the New England Patriots. He had six receptions for 132 yards and one touchdown. Cam Newton targeted him seven times so like Brandin Cooks he only had one he could not get to. Byrd’s longest reception was for 42 yards. This helped the Patriots win in total and passing yards but not get the win. Let us see how many more times Byrd will help the Patriots for the rest of 2020.

This is a game that the New England Patriots will want back. It feels like their playoff hopes are slipping away. We all knew without many players and the GOAT it was going to be hard. We all still believe in Bill Belichick Let see how the rest of the Patriots season goes they still have another game against the winless Jets that nearly beat them. Even in a loss, there are always positives that are what New England needs to focus on. They will be there next week and maybe they can get a win.
