Seattle Seahawks: Could Carlos Dunlap Make a Difference for the Defense?

The Seattle Seahawks defense has not been very good at all this season. They have one of the worst statistical defenses in NFL History. Carlos Dunlap made a difference big time on defense for Seattle in a 28-21 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday night.

Dunlap had two sacks in the game, including a sack on a fourth-down play on Arizona’s final drive to preserve the win. He was one of the reasons why Kyler Murray didn’t look all that sharp on a short week.

Carlos Dunlap was acquired in a trade before the trade deadline from the Cincinnati Bengals. He wanted to get out of Cincinnati because they were in a rebuild situation and Seattle is currently in a win-now situation.

This is going to provide a boost for the Seahawks defense for the rest of the season alongside Jamal Adams. Adams has been hurt and has to miss some time this season on the field as well.

With the presence of Dunlap, it makes this defense more respectable than it has been recently. They were able to win the line of scrimmage against the Cardinals’ offensive line.

When the Arizona Cardinals and the Seattle Seahawks met the first time, Seattle gave up 37 points against this explosive offense, despite scoring 34 points in the first matchup and lost in overtime.

It is amazing what one defensive lineman presence can do for a football team.

Carlos Dunlap could be the heartbeat of this defense moving forward. He will mean a lot to this defense as well.

The Seattle Seahawks at the moment are in first place in the NFC North, but if the Los Angeles Rams (6-3) take down the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7-3), Los Angeles will go into first place in the NFC West because the Rams just recently beat them 23-16.

Carlos Dunlap is 31 years old and will have one more year left on his contract. So far this season, in 10 games played and in seven games started, he has recorded 4.5 sacks, 28 tackles, and seven of them are for losses.

I am not a firm believer of the Seattle Seahawks being a legitimate Super Bowl contender, but this is a start with having him on the defensive side of the ball.

This will make Head Coach Pete Carroll and quarterback Russell Wilson happy.

This has been one of the most historically bad defenses in NFL history. Cincinnati for sure is going to miss Dunlap’s presence but it was for the best of both sides that they moved on. He wants a Super Bowl ring and desperately needs one. Seattle has not won since the 2013 season against the Denver Broncos and last was at it in 2014 against the New England Patriots.

The next game for the Arizona Cardinals (6-4) will be on the road against the New England Patriots (4-5) next Sunday.

The next game for the Seattle Seahawks (7-3) will be at home against the Philadelphia Eagles (3-5-1) next Monday night.

Do you think Carlos Dunlap will help this Seattle Seahawks defense moving forward or no? Leave a comment below.
