Miami Dolphins: Are They Becoming Legitimate Super Bowl Contenders?
The Miami Dolphins had their winning streak on the line on Sunday afternoon at home against the Los Angeles Chargers. The weather was sloppy in Miami, but they made it look easy against Los Angeles and won this game by a final score of 29-21.
The Dolphins have won five consecutive games and they are becoming a very dangerous football team. The confidence is sky high right now and Miami is still in wild-card positioning in the AFC.
Their football culture has tremendously changed under Brian Flores overnight. This team is having fun on both sides of the ball and they are also winning on the line of scrimmage as well.
Flores used to be the defensive coordinator of the New England Patriots under Bill Belichick a couple of years ago, but Brian Flores has established one of the best defensive units in the NFL in Miami.
The offense is starting to get better after Tua Tagovailoa made his third career start.
He is the heart and soul of this football team. Tagovailoa has many good years ahead of him as long as he can stay healthy.
He completed 15-of-25 passes for 169 yards and two touchdowns.
Salvon Ahmed rushed for 85 yards on 21 carries and a touchdown.
Jakeem Grant caught four passes for 43 yards receiving and a touchdown.
Mike Gesicki caught two passes for 40 yards receiving.
DeVante Parker caught two passes for 31 yards receiving. At some point, Tua Tagovailoa’s and Parker’s chemistry will need to get going at some point.
In the AFC East standings, the Buffalo Bills (7-3) lost to the Arizona Cardinals (6-3) so the Miami Dolphins are only a half-game back of Buffalo in the divisional standings.
This team is improving every week and those two teams play each other in Week 17 of the NFL Season. That could potentially be for the divisional title, but it may not even matter by then.
Xavien Howard is one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL and he picked off Justin Herbert in this game. Herbert’s life was difficult in this game and was inconsistent like he was back at college with the University of Oregon.
The Miami Dolphins are ahead of schedule. It will be a successful season to get to the playoffs and win a playoff game. Just getting their in the near future will be a failure. This is going to be a high expectation team moving forward.
The tape of the measure of this football team will be when they face the Kansas City Chiefs (8-1) in Week 14 at home. This could be a potential first-round match up.
The Pittsburgh Steelers (9-0), the Baltimore Ravens (6-2), the Tennessee Titans (6-3), the Vegas Raiders (6-3), the Indianapolis Colts (6-3), and the Cleveland Browns (6-3) are some of the other potential contenders in the AFC.
The AFC is so loaded this season and I don’t think it is going to matter this season. The Miami Dolphins will not get their this season but they will most likely in years to come here also.
