New York Jets: Where Does Sam Darnold Land Next Season?
Sam Darnold is just 23 years old for the New York Jets. He is injury prone. Darnold missed the Monday Night Football Game against the New England Patriots. Joe Flacco took his place and played well, but they lost on a last-second 51-yard field goal by Nick Folk and New York lost 30-27 against New England.
Down Go The Jets
The Jets had a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter. Had New York won this game, they would have lost the number one overall pick at the moment to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
It appears as if the New York Jets are not going to win a game this season. That was their best chance to win a game this season and it appears as if it isn’t going to happen. Where could Sam Darnold land next season?
Well before I get into that, Joe Flacco completed 18-of-25 passes for 262 yards three touchdowns, and one interception. He turned back the clock and was vintage playoff Joe Flacco.
Market for Darnold
Now, let me get into it. Sam Darnold is going to have a lot of teams that will want to trade for him. He was the third overall pick out of USC in 2018. Darnold has a lot of potential and he doesn’t want his career to be ruined.
The projected number one overall pick right now is Trevor Lawrence out of Clemson University. What would happen if he decided not to come out? Would general manager Joe Douglas have to hang onto Sam Darnold? Well, if Lawrence does come out, then Darnold will be traded for sure and it is almost a guarantee it will happen.
The first team that comes to mind is the San Francisco 49ers. They are going to want to move off Jimmy Garoppolo at the end of the season. He is injury, but so is Darnold, but what’s the difference here? The difference is that Sam Darnold played college football at USC.
The second team that comes to mind is the Washington Football Team. Kyle Allen and Dwayne Haskins is not the long term answer. Alex Smith is also not the long term answer either. This team is going to have too many wins to draft a top tier quarterback.
AFC North Interested?
The third team that comes to mind is the Pittsburgh Steelers. You are going to tell me that Mason Rudolph is the answer for being the future quarterback? Darnold is ten times better than him and at least Ben Roethlisberger can teach him the ropes. JuJu Smith-Schuster was Sam Darnold’s college teammate at USC.
The fourth team that comes to mind is the Cleveland Browns. Hear me out on this one. Kevin Stefanski, the current head coach of the Cleveland Browns, who was the Offensive Coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings last season, didn’t inherit Baker Mayfield. They may feel as if he is not the long term answer and that Sam Darnold maybe with the talent in Cleveland on both the offensive side of the ball and the defensive side of the ball.
Other potential teams to look out for: Indianapolis Colts and Minnesota Vikings
Sam Darnold is currently the heartbeat of the New York Jets. They are potentially going to head in a different direction sometime soon as well.
Adam Gase is most likely going to be fired at the end of the season.
It is a long shot they get Justin Fields from Ohio State or Trey Lance from North Dakota State.
In six games played so far this season, Sam Darnold has completed 112-of-191 passes for 1,045 passing yards three touchdowns, and six interceptions. He has also rushed for 138 yards on 18 carries and a touchdown.
If you asked me where Sam Darnold is going to be playing in 2021, my two best bets are the Washington Football Team and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
