NFL: Week 9 Game Picks Predictions

Week 9 of the NFL slate is here. Just a he does every week, Michael brings you his picks and analysis of this week’s games.

(Byes include: 5-3 Los Angeles Rams, 2-5-1 Cincinnati Bengals, 3-4-1, Philadelphia Eagles, 5-3 Cleveland Browns)

Thursday, November 5th

(5-2)Packers at 49ers(4-4) at 8:20 PM ET on FOX

The 49ers are having issues with skill position players, but I do believe they match up well with Green Bay. The run defense is a concern for the Packers after Dalvin Cook’s performance Sunday. That said, I look for Green Bay to get the train back on the rails. Packers 27 49ers 24 in Sant Clara, California.

Sunday, November 8th

(1-7)New York Giants at Washington Football Team(2-5) at 1:00 PM ET on FOX

Washington was a two-point conversion away in the last meeting. They have had two weeks to prepare. This meeting will have a different outcome. Football Team keeps up with Philadelphia in the NFL’s NFC East standings, beating the Giants 28-20.

(5-3)Chicago Bears at Tennessee Titans(5-2) at 1:00 PM ET on FOX

This game fascinates me because both teams did not play great last Sunday. A win for either could go a long way towards challenging for a high seed by season’s end. Both teams take pride in their craft on the defensive side of the ball. This leads me to believe the field position will matter. The team that creates a short field via the turnover should tell the story. I think Tennessee will be the one to do so. Titans 32 Bears 21 will be the final score.

(3-5)Carolina Panthers at Kansas City Chiefs(7-1) at 1:00 PM ET on FOX

I like Kansas City to win big 35-17. They get a lead early and the Panthers will not be able to keep up. The Chiefs still have another gear to go to if they want to retain their status as champions. I think they will find that form, but still not sure they will repeat given that it has been sixteen seasons since the New England Patriots accomplished the feat.

(6-1)Seattle Seahawks at Buffalo Bills(6-2) at 1:00 PM ET on FOX

The Seahawks find a way to pull through in the fourth quarter after a close first forty-five minutes. In this case, Seattle wins with room to spare, 35-20. Despite questions of the eye test matching their record, Buffalo is still pacing the field in their division. Many teams will not want to deal with the cold weather should the Bills host a playoff game, provided they do not relinquish first place in the NFL’s AFC East Division.

(5-2)Baltimore Ravens at Indianapolis Colts(5-2) at 1:00 PM ET on CBS

I like the Colts to win this won at the wire. Lamar Jackson plays well, but the Colts defense will contain but not dominate the Ravens rushing attack. Because of two straight losses after this  Sunday’s projected result, Baltimore will be heavily scrutinized. I think they will be fine in the long run. Colts 28 Ravens 23 in a back and forth game.

(3-4)Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings(2-5) at 1:00 PM ET on CBS

The Vikings were very impressive last week in Wisconsin. Somehow, I don’t foresee them putting together back-to-back results. The Lions have a strong defensive effort after being humbled last week. It finishes Detroit 25 Minnesota 13.

(1-6)Houston Texans at Jacksonville Jaguars(1-6) at 1:00 PM ET on CBS

No there will not be a tie. The Texans get a defensive stop in the final minute and get their second win, 27-21. Jacksonville keeps their name in the hat for the top overall pick next spring.

(3-4)Denver Broncos at Atlanta Falcons(2-6) at 1:00 PM ET on CBS

Denver, much like Las Vegas is very much in the playoff discussion. I think the Broncos get to .500 on the fast track in Atlanta. Denver holds on for a 31-28 decision despite a late Falcons rally.

(4-3)Las Vegas Raiders at Los Angeles Chargers(2-5) at 4:05 PM ET on FOX

The Raiders string another win in the chase for a wild card position. The Chargers continue their growing pains of trying to win close games. Las Vegas gets 400 yards passing in a 35-24 road victory.

(7-0)Pittsburgh Steelers at Dallas Cowboys(2-6) at 4:25 PM ET on CBS

This game stays close for about a quarter and a half, but Pittsburgh is clearly the better team on paper and on the field. The Steelers create four turnovers that lead to seventeen points. 38-17 to the visiting team Sunday.

(4-3)Miami Dolphins at Arizona Cardinals(5-2) at 4:25 PM ET on CBS

Kyler Murray and Tua Tagovailoa each throw at least two touchdown passes. Murray does one better and it makes the difference. Cardinals 28 Dolphins 21 in the Grand Canyon State.

(5-2)New Orleans Saints at Tampa Bay Buccaneers(6-2) at 8:20 PM ET on NBC

This will be a close NFL game, but the Bucs get an important split in the season series, avoiding losing out on the tiebreaker in the NFC South. Both sides will have methodical drives, but there will be hard-hitting, so I have the score ending at 24-17.

Monday, November 9th

(2-5)New England Patriots at New York Jets(0-8) at 8:15 PM ET on ESPN

I think the Jets get their first win. It will take overtime and a field goal following a defensive stand. The Jets 24 and the Patriots 21 after eleven o’clock on the east coast.
