New York Giants: It’s Time to Move Off of Daniel Jones

Daniel Jones has had plenty of chances to make big throws in big spots. The New York Giants blew another lead on Monday night football against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tampa Bay won 25-23 over New York.

The Giants have started 1-7 for the third consecutive year. This team needs a franchise-changing quarterback because Daniel Jones is not the answer. Even though he was the sixth overall pick in 2019 out of Duke University, Jones is a turnover machine.

He has committed 34 turnovers in his first 20 starts since Ryan Leaf. When you get compared to Ryan Leaf, you know you are a bust.

The New York Giants need to stop being bad. If they had Trevor Lawrence out of Clemson or Justin Fields out of Ohio State, they would be 4-4 right now and in first place in a weak NFC East.

Draft Capital

New York would own the number two pick in the NFL Draft. The New York Jets currently own the number one pick in the NFL Draft. The NFL needs both of these teams to own the top two picks in the 2021 NFL Draft.

The Jets would take Trevor Lawrence and the Giants would take Justin Fields.

Fields is 21 years old. He is more accurate and mobile than Daniel Jones is. Justin Fields will be better in a decade span than Daniel Jones would be.

Fields has completed 48-of-55 passes for 594 yards and six touchdowns in two games played for the Ohio State Buckeyes. He has also rushed for 50 yards on 21 carries and a touchdown though.

Another reason why moving off of Daniel Jones after the season makes sense is because of at what’s happening with the Arizona Cardinals. They moved off of the Josh Rosen and Steve Wilks era after one season.

In the second season of the Kyler Murray and the Kliff Kingsbury era, they are on the verge of potentially making the playoffs this season.

Danny Dimes

Daniel Jones completed 25-of-41 passes for 256 yards two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also rushed for 20 yards on three carries.

Jones threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Dion Lewis in the first quarter and he also threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Golden Tate in the fourth quarter with under a minute remaining.

Daniel Jones threw a pass intended for Dion Lewis in the end zone on the two-point conversion. There was a flag thrown on the play, but the refs picked it up at the last second and Antoine Winfield Jr. made the play though.

Joe Judge could potentially be one and done for the New York Giants as the head coach and so could General Manager Dave Gettleman. His drafting has been horrendous.

Offensive coordinator Jason Garrett has not been bad and defensive coordinator Patrick Graham has been excellent this season for the New York Giants.

Daniel Jones has completed 168-of-272 passes for 1,666 yards seven touchdowns and nine interceptions. He has also rushed for 296 yards on 31 carries.

The quarterback position is the heartbeat and the heart and soul of the NFL. You need a quarterback in order to win a Super Bowl in today’s NFL.

What are the Options?

The turnover-prone Daniel Jones shows how valuable Eli Manning was to this franchise in winning two Super Bowls and winning two Super Bowl MVP’s though.

If they didn’t land a top-two pick, they could always look at Trey Lance of North Dakota State or Zach Wilson of BYU.

In free agency, they could get Dak Prescott from the Dallas Cowboys and reunite him with Jason Garrett or Ryan Fitzpatrick from the Miami Dolphins.

The New York Giants have eight games left. There is no need for them to win another game this season. New York fans could suffer some more temporarily since they don’t care anymore.

Tanking would be the best thing for this franchise because they need a franchise-changing quarterback and they need to start from scratch and move on from Daniel Jones once the season is over despite him showing flashes from time-to-time.

The next game for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-2) will be at home against the New Orleans Saints (5-2) this Sunday night.

The next game for the New York Giants will be against the Washington Football Team (2-5) this Sunday.
