Detroit Lions: Can the Cats Make it to the Playoffs in 2020?

The Detroit Lions have been very bad for the last couple of seasons. Head Coach Matt Patricia is in his third season as the head coach and Detroit haven’t made any progress. However, they are 3-3 to start the season after defeating the Atlanta Falcons 23-22 in the final seconds on Sunday though.

Patricia is coaching for his job and General Manager Bob Quinn could also be out the door after this season if they don’t make any improvements. Detroit has not been to the postseason in a few years and it appears as if they are getting a little bit better.

The Lions are currently in third place in the NFC North. The Chicago Bears (5-2) and the Green Bay Packers (5-1) are currently ahead of them in the division. The Minnesota Vikings (1-5) are currently in last place in the NFC North and this comes as a surprise because a lot of picked them to win the division this season.

A lot of people picked Detroit to finish last in the division this season, but it appears as if they won’t. Second place is possible because Chicago could potentially slip, but not first place. The Lions should have defeated them in Week 1 had D’Andre Swift not dropped a touchdown pass from Matthew Stafford.

8 out of their final 10 games are winnable. The only two games that are not winnable for them are the Tennessee Titans and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Their next game seven games will be against the Indianapolis Colts, at the Minnesota Vikings, against the Washington Football Team, at the Carolina Panthers, against the Houston Texans on Thanksgiving Day, at the Chicago Bears, and against the Green Bay Packers.

Detroit will host Minnesota in the final week of the NFL Regular Season and if they do show improvement, this could be a chance for them to crack the postseason.

However, the only thing that could be holding them back from a 7-team postseason this year is how ridiculously good the NFC West is though.

Matthew Stafford is the heartbeat of this football team. He is one of the most underrated quarterbacks in the NFL.

As long as Stafford is healthy, this team will have a chance potentially to go to the playoffs this season though.

He has completed 127-of-204 passes for 1,580 yards 10 touchdowns and four interceptions. Matthew Stafford has also rushed for 67 yards on 16 carries.

Adrian Peterson has rushed for 314 yards on 80 carries and two touchdowns.

He was released from The Washington Football Team before the season started.

D’Andre Swift has rushed for 185 yards on 35 carries and four touchdowns. He was a second-round pick out of the University of Georgia though. Swift has also caught 20 passes for 152 yards receiving and a touchdown though.

Kerryon Johnson has rushed for 80 yards on 25 carries and a touchdown.

T.J. Hockenson has caught 22 passes for 256 yards receiving and four touchdowns.

Kenny Golladay has caught 20 passes for 388 yards receiving and two touchdowns.

Marvin Jones II has caught 19 passes for 226 yards receiving and one touchdown.

Danny Amendola has caught 15 passes for 270 yards receiving and zero touchdowns so far this season though.

This team is also very underrated defensively though.

Tracy Walker leads the team in tackles with 40. Jamie Collins and Jeffrey Okudah are some of the other key defensive players on this football team though.

Duron Harmon leads the team with two interceptions. Jeffrey Okudah, Darryl Roberts, and Jamie Collins each have an interception as well though.

This team doesn’t have many sacks this season as well though.

They have not been to the playoffs since 2016 and they were the sixth seed and they lost to the Seattle Seahawks in the Wild Card Round.

The Detroit Lions have not won a playoff game since 1991 against the Dallas Cowboys.
