Cleveland Browns: Is Baker Mayfield Better Without Odell Beckham Jr.?

The Cleveland Browns were struggling really early. Baker Mayfield threw a pass intended for Odell Beckham Jr. in the first quarter. He was picked off and then after the interception, Beckham Jr. was hurt and did not return.

He was carted off the field and he is now done for the season with a torn ACL. Baker Mayfield started the game 0-for-5 with an interception. That was all with Odell Beckham Jr. on the football field.

However, Mayfield’s only incompletion was when it was a spike after that. He was distributing the football all over the field.

The stats speak for themselves. When Odell Beckham Jr. is on the field, Mayfield has completed 401-of-669 passes (59.9 completion percentage). He has been averaging 7.2 yards per attempt. Baker Mayfield has thrown for 29 touchdowns and 27 interceptions. His passer rating is 79.6.

Without having Beckham Jr. on the field, he has completed 41-of-63 passes (65.1 completion percentage). He has been averaging 6.6 yards per attempt. Mayfield has thrown for eight touchdowns and one interception. His passer rating is 116.6.

Well, in the 37-34 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, this was the best that Baker Mayfield has looked ever though. Look I understand the fact that he played well against the Cincinnati Bengals in his entire career and has looked average against NFL teams, but there may be more good than bad to come through.

Mayfield finished the game by completing 22-of-28 passes for 297 yards five touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed for -1 yards on one carry.

Baker Mayfield is the heart and soul of this football team. He has the chance to elevate his game for the remainder of the season.

Kareem Hunt led the team in rushing with 76 yards rushing on 18 carries. He also caught three passes for 26 yards receiving and a touchdown.

Rashard Higgins was the leading receiver in this game for Cleveland with six receptions for 110 yards receiving.

Harrison Bryant caught four passes for 56 yards receiving and two touchdowns.

Donovan Peoples-Jones caught the game-winning touchdown pass for the Cleveland Browns with 11 seconds remaining. He caught three passes for 56 yards receiving and a touchdown.

David Njoku caught two passes for 20 yards receiving and a touchdown though.

Jarvis Landry completed a pass for 19 yards in the game. He also caught five passes for 48 yards receiving. Landry also rushed for four yards on two carries though.

They don’t need another wide receiver or trade for anybody because they are just fine personnel-wise though.

They are just fine and Head Coach Kevin Stefanski will have his guys ready to host the Las Vegas Raiders (3-3) on Sunday at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio, with kickoff set for 1 p.m. Eastern on CBS though.

What do you think about Baker Mayfield potentially being better off without Odell Beckham Jr. and should they trade him and will Mayfield be able to finally play at MVP level because of it? Leave a comment below.
