New England Patriots: Looking Ahead to San Francisco 49ers

The New England Patriots come into week six with a 2-3 record. They have lost the last two games. Both to AFC West opponents in the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos. The Patriots had Cam Newton back after he tested positive for the coronavirus. He struggled to throw two interceptions and went 17 for 25 for 157 yards. On the flip side, he did have one rushing touchdown. New England struggled to score points only scoring in quarters two and four. Newton was also the leading rusher for the Patriots. I have nothing wrong with that but many will say what happened to James White and Rex Burkhead. This is a game that New England should have won. The Patriots now find themselves in third place in the AFC East. They now welcome the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers are also a team that is struggling.

San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers come into this game against the New England Patriots at a 3-3 record. They come into this game after a win over division rival the Los Angeles Rams. The 49ers won by just eight points. They did use an interception to help with the win. This is a team that uses the running game to nearly win the Super Bowl last year. Raheem Mostert led the way against the Rams but will be out this week due to injury. Jimmy Garoppolo has not been the same as he was in 2019. He did have a good game going 23 for 33 for 268 and three touchdowns. The defense gave up 311 yards to the Rams. Look for the Patriots to do near the same. The teams that San Francisco has lost to are all worse than New England.

New England Patriots

The New England Patriots are coming off the worst game they have played so far in 2020. The Denver Broncos are not a good team and only to score 12 points against them is not good. They only had 288 yards of total offense. The passing game was bad as there were no passing touchdowns. The defense kept them in the game getting two interceptions off of Drew Lock. They will face former backup this week. Jimmy Garoppolo was the back up to Tom Brady. Despite the players being out the defense has given the offense a chance to win games. I am not blaming the offense for the loss against the Broncos. I believe that Bill Belichick will have a better game plan in store for the 49ers. New England has lost to its only other NFC West opponent in the Seattle Seahawks. That game was very close.

Kickoff is scheduled for 4:25 EST at Foxboro. This will be the second straight home game in a row. We know that the New England Patriots had their schedule change due to positive coronavirus tests. The San Francisco 49ers will have a much tougher test against New England than Los Angeles. It will be cool to see Jimmy Garoppolo back in New England. The Patriots will not have to worry about their running game of the 49ers. I can see Cam Newton having a better game this week. The game will be close between these teams. Looking forward to this game on Sunday.
