Miami Dolphins: Tua Tagovailoa Named Starting Quarterback
The Miami Dolphins feel that it is time to switch from Ryan Fitzpatrick to Tua Tagovailoa as the starting quarterback for Miami. Tagovailoa came into the game for the Dolphins on the final drive in a 24-0 win at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.
They will be on a bye week in Week 7. His first two career starts will be against the Los Angeles Rams at home in Week 8 and against the Arizona Cardinals on the road in Week 9.
Later on, in the season, Tua will be facing fellow draftmates in Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers and Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals.
In the game on Sunday, Tua Tagovailoa completed 2-of-2 passes for nine yards. It will be interesting to see how Head Coach Brian Flores will utilize his ability on the offensive side of the ball though.
The offensive line is one of the worst units in the league and this is why some people think that this move now is very suspicious despite Ryan Fitzpatrick playing very well and the Miami Dolphins are in the thick of the AFC East race and also the AFC Wild Card race though.
He has completed 138-of-197 of his passes (70.1 completion percentage) for 1,535 passing yards 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Fitzpatrick has rushed for 135 yards on 25 carries and two touchdowns so far this season.
Stats and Weapons
In Tua Tagovailoa’s college career, he completed 474-of-684 passes (69.3 completion percentage) for 7,442 passing yards 87 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Tagovailoa also rushed for 340 yards on 107 carries and nine touchdowns.
He is the heartbeat of this football team moving forward. It is going to be interesting to see what Tagovailoa can do.
He will need to stay healthy and his career almost ended in college last season at the University of Alabama due to a hip issue and an ankle issue though.
Some of the key players he will have on offense to work with is Myles Gaskin, Jordan Howard, Matt Breida, DeVante Parker, Jakeem Grant, and Mike Geiscki though.
This is logically the right time to make the quarterback switch, but some people feel like he should have waited to start him.
The Miami Dolphins are currently 3-3 so far this season. They are one game back of the Buffalo Bills (4-2) for first place in the AFC East though. Miami has not won the AFC East since 2008 though.
The New England Patriots (2-3) are currently in third place in the AFC East and the New York Jets (0-6) are currently in last place in the AFC East and they may not even win a game this season and land the number one overall pick though.
The now and the future is here with Tua Tagovailoa at the starting quarterback position for the Miami Dolphins though. Miami fans will be holding their breaths every time he takes a big hit though. Hopefully, the Dolphins will see success with him, and hopefully, he could be the best quarterback in franchise history since Dan Marino.
What do you think of the Miami Dolphins naming Tua Tagovailoa their starting quarterback moving forward over Ryan Fitzpatrick though? Leave a comment below.
