Los Angeles Dodgers: Are They Finally Going to Break Through?
The Los Angeles Dodgers are on the right track to win their first World Series Title since 1988 against the Oakland Athletics in five games. Los Angeles took down the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 1 of the World Series by a final score of 8-3, at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
The Dodgers previously trailed in the NLCS 3-1 against the Atlanta Braves. It appeared as if they were going to have another postseason failure after Clayton Kershaw bombed in Game 4 of the NLCS, but he redeemed himself for now in the World Series though.
He pitched six quality innings and only gave up two hits and one run. Clayton Kershaw only walked one batter and struck out eight. The only mistake he made was giving up a solo home run to Kevin Kermaier in the fifth inning Because of this performance, will this mean that the Los Angeles Dodgers will finally win a World Series Title?
The answer is most likely yes. The Los Angeles Dodgers have much more firepower than the Tampa Bay Rays do. In 2017, the Houston Astros had just as much firepower as them in the World Series and lost in seven games, and in 2018, the Boston Red Sox beat them in five games in the World Series.
In 2019, the Los Angeles Dodgers were heavy favorites to win the World Series. However, they were upset in the NLDS in five games against the Washington Nationals and they eventually won the World Series in seven games against the Houston Astros.
In the offseason, the Los Angeles Dodgers traded for outfielder Mookie Betts from the Boston Red Sox, along with starting pitcher David Price for some prospects, including outfielder Alex Verdugo and shortstop/second baseman Jeter Downs.
Betts went 2-for-4 with a solo home run off of Josh Fleming in the sixth inning to make it a 6-1 lead for the Dodgers and he also stole two bases. He is also a tremendous defensive player though.
Mookie Betts is the heart and soul of this baseball team. It was worth it for them in the offseason to acquire him in a trade.
Cody Bellinger also hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning off of Tyler Glasnow. Those were the first runs scored of the game.
Some of the other key players on this roster for the Los Angeles Dodgers are Will Smith, Justin Turner, Corey Seager (NLCS MVP), Max Muncy, Austin Barnes, and Chris Taylor.
This team has been very deep for years and they are a very well run organization. The Los Angeles Dodgers are due sooner rather than later for a World Series Title. They have put in too much work to come up short year after year though.
Title or Bust
This World Series title in 2020 would make up for the missed opportunities in the past. Manager Dave Roberts also needs another World Series ring, but this time it would be his first as a manager. He won a ring with the Boston Red Sox in 2004 against the St. Louis Cardinals in a clean sweep. Boston came back from an 0-3 deficit in the ALCS against the New York Yankees though.
I think this will finally be the year. The Los Angeles Dodgers will find a way to probably win this series against the Tampa Bay Rays in either five or six games. If this goes to a Game 7, it would be tough for them to win because Charlie Morton is nearly unstoppable in those kinds of games though.
Game 2 of the World Series will be on Wednesday night at 8:08 p.m. Eastern on FOX. The pitching matchup will be Blake Snell for the Tampa Bay Rays and Tony Gonsolin for the Los Angeles Dodgers at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
