Tennessee Titans: Are They the Best Team in the NFL?
The Tennessee Titans rarely had any practice time the past couple of weeks due to the coronavirus pandemic. They needed their Week 4 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers switched to Week 7 and they also needed the game against the Buffalo Bills switched from Sunday and Thursday and it didn’t matter. Tennessee dominated Buffalo by a final score of 42-16.
This game was played at Nissan Stadium in downtown Nashville, Tennessee. This is one of the most fundamentally sound teams in the NFL. They are winning the turnover battle so far this season at + 8.
Derrick Henry was held in check. He rushed for 57 yards on 19 carries, but Henry found the end zone twice. Henry also caught one pass for six yards receiving.
If he is going to be contained and if they still put up points like this, this team is going to be scary down the road.
Ryan Tannehill completed 21-of-28 passes for 195 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for 42 yards on four carries and a score for the Titans.
Tannehill is the heart and soul of this football team. His play has been solid ever since coming over from the Miami Dolphins.
Could he be a more athletic version of Eli Manning without the turnovers? It remains to be seen though.
Tennessee also used its running back depth in the game with Jeremy McNichols and Darrynton Evans. McNichols rushed for 28 yards on nine carries. He also caught one pass for three yards receiving. Evans rushed for 12 yards on two carries though.
This team was also thin at the wide receiver position. Corey Davis and Adam Humphries did not play due to being on the COVID-19 list. A.J. Brown returned for this game due to injury and he caught seven passes for 82 yards receiving and a touchdown.
Kalif Raymond caught two passes for 26 yards receiving. Raymond is a speedster on special teams and he is one of the reasons why this team had very good field position on all of their drives yesterday though.
MyCole Pruitt was missing in this game due to the COVID-19 list. He is also a part of this tight end group though.
Leaders of the Pack
This team is very deep and a lot of credit goes to head coach Mike Vrabel, offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, and general manager Jon Robinson.
Vrabel said after the game that everyone in the organization is going to get a game ball though.
Most importantly, their is a reason why this team was in the AFC Championship Game last season against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Tennessee Titans could very well get back their again this season and potentially win the Super Bowl LV at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay, Florida, on Sunday, February 7 though.
They will maybe have to face the Buffalo Bills again, but they could also go through the New England Patriots, the Indianapolis Colts, the Kansas City Chiefs, the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Baltimore Ravens, and the Cleveland Browns though.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Chicago Bears, the Los Angeles Rams, the Dallas Cowboys, the Seattle Seahawks, the New Orleans Saints, and the Green Bay Packers could very well represent the NFC in the Super Bowl this season and we will see where this all goes though.
According to NFL Research’s page on Twitter, “The Titans became the first time to score a TD on every red zone possession (minimum 6 RZ drives), have no zero turnovers, and allow no sacks since the Patriots defeated the Bills, 56-10, in Week 11 of their undefeated 2007 season.”
I think this Tennessee Titans team has a legitimate shot to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl this February though. Their is a long way to go for this Tennessee Titans football team though.
The Buffalo Bills (4-1) next game will be against the Kansas City Chiefs (4-1) on Monday at 5 p.m. Eastern in Buffalo, New York.
Tennessee will host the Houston Texans (1-4) this Sunday at 1 p.m. Eastern.
