Chicago Bears: Are they for Real?
The Chicago Bears had many questions heading into this season after finishing 7-9 last season. Chicago was 13-3 in 2018 and it looks like they are heading that direction in 2020. The Bears took down the Buccaneers 20-19 on a 38-yard field goal by Cairo Santos on Thursday night football at Soldier Field, in Chicago, Illinois.
The Chicago Bears didn’t play a perfect game by any means. They needed to grind it out in order to win this game. The defense was able to get pressure on Tom Brady all night long.
Khalil Mack recorded two sacks in this game for the Chicago Bears.
He is the heart and soul of this football team. Mack is one of the best defensive players in the NFL.
Mack is one of the reasons why this team is 4-1.
Foles completed 30-of-42 passes for 243 yards one touchdown and one interception. He also rushed for -1 yards on one carry.
Cordarelle Patterson is also a very good kickoff returner for this football team though. He rushed for seven yards on three carries. He also caught three passes for 38 yards receiving.
Allen Robinson is one of the most underrated wide receivers in the NFL. He caught 10 passes for 90 yards receiving.
David Montgomery rushed for 29 yards on 10 carries and a touchdown. He also caught seven passes for 30 yards receiving.
Tarik Cohen is out for the season.
Jimmy Graham caught three passes for 33 yards and a touchdown.
It is also a shame that Cole Kmet, the rookie tight end from Norte Dame, hasn’t shown much so far this season though.
What is very interesting about this Chicago Bears team is that according to Josh Frydman of WGN News, he posted on his Twitter page that, “Stat ESPN just showed: This is the second year the Bears have come back from 10 + down to win in 3 of their first 5 games to start the season. The other time? 1985. Super Bowl it is.” He continued and said, “Btw, two of those comebacks in ’85 were against Tampa Bay, who went 2-14 that season.”
This was the last time the Chicago Bears won the Super Bowl and it was against the New England Patriots though.
The Chicago Bears were last in the Super Bowl in the 2006 regular season and the 2007 postseason against the Indianapolis Colts and lost. That was when Indianapolis had Peyton Manning though.
This Chicago Bears team can very well make it to the playoffs in the NFC. I am not sure if they will be able to match up with the Green Bay Packers (4-0) in the NFC North though.
The Minnesota Vikings (1-3) and the Detroit Lions (1-3) have some catching up to do in the NFC North Standings.
As long as Chicago limits the mistakes, they will be just fine and get to the playoffs. I could see them winning a round, but it will be tough to beat teams like the Seattle Seahawks, the New Orleans Saints, the San Francisco 49ers, the Los Angeles Rams, the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Dallas Cowboys as well though.
If they get to the Super Bowl, it would most likely be against the Kansas City Chiefs. Matt Nagy used to be the offensive coordinator for Andy Reid‘s bunch before becoming a head coach three years ago though.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-2) will host the Green Bay Packers next Sunday at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay, Florida.
The Chicago Bears’ next game will be next Sunday on the road against the Carolina Panthers (2-2) at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.
