The New York Giants Should Tank for the Number One Pick

The New York Giants are in a dark place right now. They are 0-4 and the worst team in football over the past few seasons. Fans at this point fell numb and don’t even care. They just want winning football and if they want winning football again, the New York Giants should sacrifice the 2020 season and tank for the number one pick.

General manager Dave Gettleman will be out of a job. If I became the new general manager of this football team, I would make a ton of personnel moves.

I would move off of Daniel Jones, Saquon Barkley, Golden Tate, Evan Engram, and Sterling Shepard to different teams.

Jones is regressing. He isn’t working under Jason Garrett and Joe Judge. I would fire the both of them after one season because this is a what have you done for me lately league.

It is obvious that hiring assistant coaches aren’t working. They could be willing to hire Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy as the next head coach, but what if he doesn’t pan out again?

The New York Giants need a guy who will command a room and who has been a head coach before. This is what I think they are missing. With the number one overall pick, I would select quarterback Trevor Lawrence out of the University of Clemson.

To make Lawrence’s transition easy, I would hire Dabo Sweeney as the next head coach of the New York Giants.

I would trade Barkley to the Miami Dolphins for the Houston Texans first-round pick in 2021 and Miami’s first-round pick in 2022, and also a 2021 fourth-round pick.

I would try to get any value in the later rounds for Engram, Shepard, Jones, and others elsewhere.

Daniel Jones could be traded to either the Denver Broncos or the Pittsburgh Steelers on the later rounds. Denver makes sense because of Pat Shurmur being the offensive coordinator there and he was the one responsible for drafting him. Pittsburgh makes sense because Ben Roethlisberger is older though.

The Miami Dolphins pick would currently be third right now. I would draft wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase from LSU. That would be great in rebuilding this franchise.

The New York Giants have one of the worst offenses in the NFL and that would be a start in fixing this football team. Building a team around Trevor Lawrence is the answer. Building a team around Saquon Barkley isn’t the answer.

The New York Giants can’t score touchdowns and they lost to the Los Angeles Rams 17-9 on Sunday and they are now 0-4 on the season. They open as -9.5 underdogs against the Dallas Cowboys (1-3).

This is why I am okay with the New York Giants going 0-16 and 1-15 this season. Don’t listen to former players like kicker Lawrence Tynes and defensive end Justin Tuck.

This team needs a complete overhaul. Joe Judge isn’t the answer. Daniel Jones isn’t the answer. I know the NFC East is weak with also the Washington Football Team (1-3) and the Philadelphia Eagles (1-2-1), but they are by far the worst team in the NFL despite sharing a stadium with the New York Jets (0-4).

Trevor Lawrence is going to be the heartbeat and the heart and soul of an NFL franchise one day. Lawrence would be a culture changer overnight.

In the long run, Trevor Lawrence would be the answer for the New York Giants. This would be the wake-up call that ownership in John Mara and Steve Tisch desperately need. By drafting Lawrence and Chase though, this offense would be able to click right away though.
