New England Patriots: Peeking Ahead to the Kansas City Chiefs
The New England Patriots come into week four with a 2-1 record. They would be 3-0 if not for a botched goal-line play. Many people thought New England would disappear after the departure of the GOAT Tom Brady. Cam Newton has done a good job in the first three weeks. The Patriots are scoring more rushing touchdowns than they have in the past. The defense has been short-handed because like I have said before departing free agents and players who have opted out because of the coronavirus. They gave the offense a chance even after allowing Russell Wilson throws for five touchdowns. Last week the Patriots played a solid game against the Las Vegas Raiders. The Raiders came to Gillette Stadium and New England did not allow them to do what they did the previous two weeks. They have a tall order this week against the Kansas City Chiefs.
New England Patriots
The Patriots head to Arrowhead to play the defending Super Bowl champions Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs are the best team in the league. Since Andy Reid arrived the Chiefs have become a much better team. The New England Patriots will have continued to do what they have done in the first three weeks. They have been a running team. With Cam Newton, Sony Michel, Rex Burkhead, and hopefully James White is a great running attack. It was also great to see J.J Taylor be a part of the run game. We all know that Cam Newton will look for Julian Edelman and N’Keal Harry. They have been very balanced and will have to be against Kansas City. On defense, they are going to have to try and contain the great one Patrick Mahomes. If they can do that, they will win.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs come into week four with a 3-0 record. Last week, on Monday night football they showed why every other team should be on notice. The Chiefs were playing the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens have one of the top defenses in the league and had trouble containing the Chiefs offense. On the flip side, their defense slows down Lamar Jackson and the high-powered Ravens offense. I am not saying that Cam Newton is the same as Lamar Jackson, but he is a running quarterback. The Chiefs lost to Tom Brady and the Patriots in the AFC Championship game in 2018. That game was close that ended in overtime. If Kansas City can slow down the Patriots run game, it will be a long night for them. If New England defense has trouble with Mahomes it will also spell trouble.
This is a game that New England Patriots fans were probably worried about. They have been solid through the first three weeks. The Patriots have not played a team as good as the Chiefs through the first few weeks. On paper, the Chiefs should win this game, but we all know that anyone can win on any given Sunday. The Patriots can win if they stay balanced on offense and can keep Mahomes and the Chiefs offense from making too many big plays. If they cannot it will be a game that they might fall to 2-2 on the season. Either way to me whether they win or lose they will be fine. The team has shown they can play.
