Buffalo Bills: Is Josh Allen the Underrated MVP?
The Buffalo Bills are off to a 3-0 start to start the 2020 season. One of the main reasons why this is the case is because of the play of Josh Allen. He has taken massive steps year in and year out to be the quarterback he is today though.
Allen led the Buffalo Bills to a victory on Sunday 35-32 over the Los Angeles Rams. They almost blew a 28-3 lead, but Josh Allen made the plays when he needed too though.
In the first three games of the season, he has completed 71.1 percent of his passes (81-of-114) for 1,038 yards 10 touchdowns and one interception. He has also rushed for 84 yards on 22 carries and two touchdowns.
Josh Allen finally got a play maker in the offseason in Stefon Diggs. Diggs has caught 20 passes for 288 yards receiving and two touchdowns so far this season though. He is a game breaker in the offensive passing game and Allen finally has a legitimate number one wide receiving option, with John Brown and Cole Beasley as solid number two and three receiving options though.
Allen is only 24 years old and was drafted seventh overall (first-round selection) in the 2018 NFL Draft out of the University of Wyoming.
Josh Allen was going to be a massive project, but this has been a phenomenal coaching job by head Coach Sean McDermott and Offensive coordinator Brian Daboll.
Allen is the heartbeat of this football team. He is one of the most underrated quarterbacks in the NFL.
The other two to three potential MVP Candidates to the start the season is Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs, Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks, and Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers.
Mahomes has completed 67.8 percent of his passes (82-of-121) for 898 yards and nine touchdowns. He has also rushed for 80 yards on 10 carries and a score.
Wilson has completed 76.7 percent of his passes (79-of-103) for 925 yards 14 touchdowns and one interception. He has also rushed for 90 yards on 14 carries.
Rodgers has completed 67 percent of his passes (71-of-106) for 887 yards and nine touchdowns. He has also rushed for 26 yards on five carries.
The top four finalists right now for the MVP Trophy is: 1. Russell Wilson 2. Josh Allen 3. Aaron Rodgers and 4. Patrick Mahomes. Yes, there is still 14 weeks remaining in the regular season and 13 games remaining in the regular season, but these maybe the four quarterbacks that will be a top of the MVP candidate and debate list all season long though.
Allen is one of the most athletic quarterbacks in the NFL though. If Josh Allen continues to play at a high level for the entire season, he could get some serious MVP consideration.
Buffalo has made it to the postseason for the last two out of three years, but they are looking to make that next jump. They have not won the division in a very long time and that has belonged to the New England Patriots.
They last won the division in 1995 and last reached the Super Bowl in 1993 against the Dallas Cowboys.
This franchise is turning the corner because of Josh Allen. He had to make a start in his second career game because of how bad Nathan Peterman was though. Allen is maybe the best quarterback for the Buffalo Bills franchise since Jim Kelly though.
Josh Allen is going to be talked about all season long. If he continues to play a high level, Allen will be praised, but he has his erratic moments though. Josh Allen hasn’t shown much inconsicentycy so far this seaosn and he has been an amazing project to work with though.
The next game for the Buffalo Bills (3-0) will be on Sunday on the road against the Vegas Raiders (2-1) at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
