Washington Football Team: 5 Keys to Gain Victory vs the Cleveland Browns
For the Washington Football Team, a week three game against the Cleveland Browns could be just what the doctor ordered. Washington can win this game. Coming off a tough loss to the hands of the Arizona Cardinals, Washington will look to rebound in week 3. Cleveland should offer a quality fight for the young team from the Nation’s Capital. However, a win is a strong possibility. Here are some for Washington to snag victory on Sunday.
Last week Washington’s run defense held Kenyan Drake to 86 yards on 20 carries. The running backs for the Browns both went for combined 210 yards. It will be important for the Washington Football Team to stop Cleveland’s ground game. This will allow that pass rush to pin their ear’s back and get after Baker Mayfield.
Establish the Run
Washington will need to establish the run against a very talented Cleveland Browns defense. Doing so will allow offensive coordinator, Scott Turner to utilize more play action. Washington QB, Dwayne Haskins is much better when he can fake the ball to the back at hit his open receivers. The linebackers for the Browns are very aggressive and thus will bit on PA if Washington can get their running backs in gear.
The offensive line for the Washington Football Team will down their best player, Brandon Scherff. Stepping into his place will be Wes Schweitzer. This unit has not played well in the first two games. Especially last week against the Cardinals. They face another tough task in week 3 against the Browns. While the Browns currently rank 28th in passing defense, the Washington offensive line has not been that good. Opportunities will be there if they can give Haskins time.
The pass rush of the Washington Football Team is tops in the NFL through three weeks. They currently have 11 sacks. One more than the Pittsburgh Steelers. They will need to be in the face of Mayfield all day long. Doing so can make life very difficult for him and give Washington a chance at getting turnovers. Washington’s three interceptions tie them for second in the league. Adding to that total and giving the offense a short field will be key on Sunday.
Washington has come out very slow in both weeks one and two. They need to get out early. Something they should try to do is establish tempo. This will allow Haskins to get comfortable early and manage the flow of the game. He seems to be a better QB when they are going fast. The games seem to move better. If they can force Cleveland behind early, it plays better for that Washington Football Team defense as well.
Washington has a chance to make some early noise in a division that seems to be open for the taking. The Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys have struggled in weeks one and two. If the Washington Football Team can go into Cleveland and steal a win on Sunday, 2020 could have a positive outlook going forward.
