New England Patriots: Looking Ahead to the Las Vegas Raiders
The New England Patriots come into week three at a 1-1 record. It was a very close game last week against the Seattle Seahawks. It came down to a failed goal-line attempt. Cam Newton tried to score on a first goal and he was tackled short of the end zone. He did come out say that I am the one to blame. The final score was 35-30. The Patriots gave up five touchdowns to Russell Wilson and the Seahawks offense. I will be honest with a lot of our players that opted out due to Covid-19 that this game was going to be harder. The offense has been good and that was without James White whose father passed away. This week’s game will be back at home and the last time they were home the Patriots defeated the Miami Dolphins. This week they welcome in the 2-0 Las Vegas Raiders.
Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders have been good thru the first two weeks of the season. They had their home opener just last week. The beat Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints. Derek Carr went 28/38 for 284 and three touchdowns. The game was tied at 17 at the half. The Raiders outscored the Saints 17-7 and it sealed the deal. This is a team, under Jon Gruden, that is supposed to struggle in 2020. Through two weeks they have shown that they can win. The offense and defense will now challenge the New England Patriots. New England could also be undefeated. Look for the Raiders to try and slow down Cam Newton who has been good in the first two weeks. The question I have is how Derek Carr will do against the Patriots defense. He has Darren Waller and Josh Jacobs.
New England Patriots
Cam Newton came out and accounted for three touchdowns. He threw for one and ran for two. Newton has brought something the Patriots have not had since Ryan Mallet. In the past, the passing game was a big part of the offense. In week one against the Dolphins Sony Michel, Rex Burkhead and James White had a good game. The defense that they played against last week in Seattle was better than Miami’s. The Raiders’ defense will now challenge Newton and the offense. On the other hand, the Pats defense will also be challenged. They did the best they could against Russell Wilson. Derek Carr is not as good as Wilson is. The one advantage that can see the Pats have is the Raiders have to travel across the country and play a one clock game.
This is the first of three games the Patriots play against the AFC West. None of the games will be easy. Many of the experts have liked how the Raiders have played in the first two weeks. The same has also said they are happy with how Cam Newton has played. I am going to watch the battle of two good minds at the head coaching position with Bill Belichick and Jon Gruden. I will be watching to see how the game comes out. In the end, I think it will be a close game that might come down to a late field goal.
