Florida Gators: Eyes Big Day versus Ole Miss Rebels

Many say that college football does not start until the SEC is back. Well, this Saturday we will see just that. The one team that I cover is the Florida Gators. The Gators are coming off another great season. They finished 11-2 in 2019 and this is year two under Dan Mullen. Currently, they are ranked number five in the nation. Many experts have the Gators being in the college football playoff. This will be an all in-conference schedule. As we all know that is due to the coronavirus. The two games as a fan that they must win are on 10/17 against the defending national champions the LSU Tigers and 11/7 against the Georgia Bulldogs. That would set them up a chance to play in the SEC Championship game. Many have pointed to the game on 12/5 against the Tennessee Volunteers. Their season start against the Ole Miss Rebels.

Florida Gators

The season will have an early start as the Gators travel to play the Ole Miss Rebels. Kickoff is scheduled at noon EST. This year as Gators fans we are hoping to get to the Sec Championship game and be one of the teams in the college football playoff. The Ole Miss Rebels are in the SEC West division. They were added along with the Texas A&M Aggies after the conference went conference only. The team had six positive tests for COVID-19. They have done well is they travel to Oxford, Mississippi. I am looking forward to seeing Kyle Trask and Emory Jones at quarterback. We will have to see what weapons outside of Kyle Pitts this year. The defense will be strong again. This to me will be a good start for the Gators we will see the strengths and weaknesses.

Ole Miss Rebels

The Rebels finished the 2019 season at a 4-8 record. They have a new head coach in Lane Kiffin. Kiffin has been in SEC before with the LSU Tigers. The only two wins in the conference from last year were to Arkansas Razorbacks and Vanderbilt Commodores. That will have to change this year. It going to be tough because you have the Alabama Crimson Tide, LSU Tigers, and Auburn Tigers in your part of the division. The Gators will test them. On the other hand, they had no positive tests. As we all know there will be no fans either which helps the visiting team. Remember this was the team that beat Tim Tebow and then came the famous speech. If the Rebels can win it would big for the program.

This is exciting because SEC football will be starting. That means three of the major four conferences will have started play. We will see the Big Ten in late October. The Gators in my opinion will have yet another good season. I am hoping to see them as a playoff team. On the other hand, The Ole Miss Rebels still have a long way to go. This game I will be watching because it will be one of the first games on after ESPN College GameDay. Mullen and company will have the right game plan for a big win to start their season.
