Why Jalen Hurts Needs to Start for the Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles are (0-2) to start the season. Carson Wentz has regressed big time and it may be time for Jalen Hurts to be the new starting quarterback for Philadelphia.

There was a reason why Jalen Hurts was drafted in the second round. Hurts is very mobile. He isn’t as talented as Wentz is, but I get the feeling the team has quit on him and he is also doing too much.

Fallin’ for Foles

There are people out there that believe they should have kept Nick Foles and I don’t blame them. Carson Wentz is injury prone and he seriously may need a new change of scenery.

The thing is his contract doesn’t expire until after the 2024 season, but there can be an opt-out after next season, according to Spotrac.

Wentz is only 27 years old and he hasn’t been his old self ever since injuring his torn ACL.

In the first two games of the regular season, Carson Wentz has completed 50-of-85 (58.8) percent of his passes for 512 yards passing two touchdowns and four interceptions. He has also rushed for nine yards on three carries and a touchdown.

Hello Hurts

Jalen Hurts was not active in Week 1 against the Washington Football Team (1-1), but he was active in Week 2 against the Los Angeles Rams (2-0) instead of Nate Sudfeld.

Hurts played his college football at the University of Alabama and the University of Oklahoma though.

He is only 22 years old. He completed 682-of-1047 passes (65.1 completion percentage) for 9,477 yards passing 80 touchdowns and 20 interceptions, in his collegiate career.

Hurts also rushed for 3,274 yards on 614 carries and 43 touchdowns. He also caught five passes for 40 yards receiving and a touchdown.

Carson Wentz is also 27 years old though.

The quarterback room is the heart and soul of this football team. They need to figure it out sooner rather than later though.

Head coach Doug Pederson doesn’t understand why Carson Wentz is regressing and maybe the team would start winning with a spark by Jalen Hurts playing more.

Pederson and general manager Howie Roseman will need to sit down and have a talk if the Philadelphia Eagles lose to the Cincinnati Bengals (0-2) at home on Sunday afternoon at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Eastern on CBS.

Final Thoughts

We will see if Jalen Hurts gets time in this next game and if he will get more reps. Even though the NFC East is a joke of a division with the Washington Football Team, the Dallas Cowboys (1-1), and the New York Giants (0-2), it will be interesting to see how things play out though.

Fans of the Philadelphia Eagles and the media in that area will be restless if they lose. This will be one of the biggest headlines heading into Week 3 of the NFL season though. A lot of people may be rooting for chaos and storylines to happen with this quarterback controversy in the city of Brotherly Love though.
