Quarterback Derek Carr Sparking the Las Vegas Raiders

The Vegas Raiders opened up at their new home stadium at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Monday night against the New Orleans Saints. Derek Carr sparked the Raiders for the second consecutive week in a 34-24 win at home against New Orleans.

Vegas has surprised people to start the season. They are one of 11 teams to be 2-0 so far this season. This team showed promise last season but fell off a cliff late in the season.

The last time they made it to the playoffs was in 2016 when they went 12-4. The Vegas Raiders were the Oakland Raiders then and that was when Derek Carr had an MVP type season.

He completed 28-of-38 passes for 282 yards and three touchdowns. Derek Carr also rushed for three yards on three carries.

The Raiders were down by 10 points in the first quarter. Carr threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Alec Ingold in the first-quarter on play action. Ingold caught two passes for five yards receiving and a touchdown.

They trailed by 10 points again when Drew Brees threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Jared Cook in the second quarter. On the ensuing drive, Derek Carr threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Zay Jones.

That was Jones’s only reception in the game.

With the game tied at 17 entering the third quarter on the first drive, Derek Carr threw a 1-yard touchdown pass to Darren Waller. This was also on play action. Waller was a beast and a nightmare in this game for the New Orleans Saints defense. He finished with 12 receptions for 103 yards receiving and a touchdown.

Derek Carr is the heartbeat and the heart and soul of this football team though nonetheless. There were some questions about his play coming into the season though nonetheless.

Bryan Edwards caught two passes for 42 yards receiving.

Hunter Renfrow caught three passes for 37 yards receiving.

Foster Moreau caught one pass for 31 yards receiving.

Nelson Agholor caught one pass for 19 yards receiving.

Henry Ruggs III caught one pass for four yards receiving. He was the 12th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft from the University of Alabama. Ruggs III had an ankle injury heading into this game and it was unsure if he was going to play.

Josh Jacobs rushed for 88 yards on 27 carries. He also caught three passes for 27 yards receiving.

Devontae Booker rushed for -1 yard on three carries. He also caught one pass for six yards receiving.

Jalen Richard also rushed for 26 yards on two carries and a touchdown.

This goes to show how potentially deep Jon Gruden’s team is. He is in his third season as the head coach of the Vegas Raiders.

General Manager Mike Mayock has done a very good job of evaluating talent. He may be one of the best general managers in the NFL and Mayock hasn’t signed a lot of free agents either though.

If Derek Carr could continue to play at a very high level, this team could be very good and wind up in a playoff spot. They still have to worry about the Kansas City Chiefs. The Los Angeles Chargers will be good with Justin Herbert and the Denver Broncos are currently injured though.

The Vegas Raiders (2-0) will look to keep it going against the New England Patriots (1-1) on the road this upcoming Sunday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.

The New Orleans Saints (1-1) will host the Green Bay Packers (2-0) at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana, this upcoming Sunday night.
