Billy Donovan Hired as Next Head Coach of Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls have missed the playoffs the last three seasons. Chicago recently fired Jim Boylen, who only coached the team for a season and a half, after he took over Fred Hoiberg, who coached the team for three and a half seasons. The Bulls hired Billy Donovan as the next head coach.

Donovan Can Coach

Donovan coached the Oklahoma City Thunder the past five seasons. He made the playoffs in all five seasons with Oklahoma City. Billy Donovan coached in 400 games with them. His record was 243-157 during the regular season. In the postseason, Donovan coached in 41 games. His record was 18-23.

Zach LaVine is thrilled that Billy Donovan is the next head coach for the Chicago Bulls.

LaVine is the heartbeat and the heart and soul of this basketball team. He is also one of the most underrated players in the NBA.

Another player in the NBA that has endorsed his pleasure for Donovan being the next head coach for Chicago Bulls is Washington Wizards shooting guard Bradley Beal.

Beal played at the University of Florida for Donovan during his freshman season in 2011-2012. They went to the Elite 8 that season as a #7 seed and lost to #4 Lousiville.

Maybe Bradley Beal would want out of Washington to go play for him in Chicago though. A trade that would work potentially is their first-round pick this season, Thaddeus Young, Coby White, Ryan Arcdiacono, and Daniel Gafford.

However, I don’t think that would happen and I don’t think luring in Anthony Davis in free agency would work either though. Davis would most likely re-sign with the Los Angeles Lakers, especially if they win the NBA Championship. He is a Chicago kid though.

Youngsters Can Grow

Some of the other players that Billy Donovan has to work within Chicago include: Otto Porter Jr., Tomas Satoransky, Cristiano Felicio, Lauri Markkanen, Wendell Carter Jr., Chandler Hutchinson, and Luke Kornet.

Kris Dunn and Denzel Valentine are pending free agents and they will most likely not be brought back. This team is currently in a rebuild but they are closer to being good again. The reason why Billy Donovan left Oklahoma City was that he didn’t want to go full reboot, especially since they are most likely to trade Chris Paul, Danilo Gallinari, Dennis Schroder, Steven Adams, and others potentially this offseason though.

Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball, and James Wiseman will most likely be off the board when the Chicago Bulls are on the clock with the fourth selection in the NBA Draft, which is set to take place on Wednesday, November 18th.

Killian Hayes, Deni Avdija, and Obi Toppin will be the top three players available when they pick most likely. According to nbadraft.net, they have the Chicago Bulls taking Killian Hayes, PG, France.

Arturas Karnisovas is the President of Basketball Operations and new general manager Marc Eversley is going to be working beside him though.

In a weaker Eastern Conference, the expectation will be postseason next season for the first time since the 2016-2017 season, where they lost to the Boston Celtics in six games.

Billy Donovan has no excuse to get to work and be successful right away with this team though. The Chicago Bulls have high expectations and they have not won it all since 1997-1998 in six games against the Utah Jazz. Those were the days of Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen though.

What do you think of the Chicago Bulls hiring Billy Donovan as the next head coach to develop these players though? Leave a comment below.
