Washington Football Team: Good, Bad, and WTF vs Arizona Cardinals

For the Washington Football Team, a win in Sunday’s football game would have been very uplifting. However, a loss and many would say that this is the team that we expect to show up this year. That is exactly what happened. In a game that was not competitive until late in the third quarter, Washington showed how bad they could be. For this team to get victories, they need everything to fall into place. On Sunday that did not happen. Some good things did happen. In saying that, let us look at the Good, Bad, and WTF from the loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

The Good

Terry McLaurin

McLaurin is the best player on this young Washington Football Team offense. On Sunday, he caught 7 passes for 125 yards and 1 TD. He was open all day long. Especially on the quick slant. All Dwayne Haskins had to do was hit him in stride and McLaurin could use his 4.3 speed to outrun the Cardinals defense. Offensive Coordinator, Scott Turner needs to utilize this play and McLaurin’s speed more often.

Tress Way

The team MVP is well on his way to having that title again in 2020. That is not a good thing, however. Way averaged 47 yards on 6 punts. Placing three inside the 20. Way will be a big help in field position for Washington. He will give the defense every opportunity to make stops. It will be up to them to do it.

The Bad

The Defense

They certainly did not have the showing this week against the Arizona Cardinals that they had against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Cardinals carved up 438 yards on Washington. Kyler Murray threw for 286 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT. He also ran the ball 8 times for 67 yards. That is where he hurt the Washington Football Team the most was with his legs. Often keeping drives alive with scrambles and big plays.

Dwayne Haskins

This was one of the games you knew Haskins was going to have. You just hope that they are few and far between. We also hope that he learns from them. Nonetheless, it was a bad performance, especially in the first half. Haskins only completed 19 passes for 223 yards and 1 TD. Most of this coming in the second half when Washington was trying to rally. He again avoided the interception, but he needs to learn to protect the ball in the face of the rush. That is a big deal for his development. Although, in order for Washington to be successful, Haskins will need to play a complete game.

The WTF

Offensive Line

The offensive line of the Washington Football Team is probably the worst position on the field. Many thought the secondary was going to be the question mark. The o-line is worrisome. Washington is going to have to make a move before the trade deadline to shore up this o-line. I know, as a front office, it is not ideal to trade for linemen. However, if they do not make some sort of move, they will hinder the development of their offense for this year along with years to come.

While Washington lost this game on Sunday, not all is lost for a successful season. After all, it is only week two. This team is young and will continue to grow all season long. There are still some wins inside this organization. There is no doubt they will find them.

In week three, Washington travels to Cleveland to take on the Cleveland Browns. The game can be seen on FOX at 1 pm Est.
